Too small for a 3/8th hose, tried to use it for a transmission line, it wasn't big enough and caused a leak.

The widest measurement of the barbs is .375 inches (3/8"), which means that the fitting slips into 3/8" hose with no resistance at all. A barb designed to fit 3/8" hose typically measures about .41 inches at its greatest width, making for a snug fit. These are most likely designed for metric hose and, though they might work for 3/8", I'd suggest double hose clamps.
