I bought this to use with my threelegged thing monopod and use it to shoot photos and video of my son’s sports. I’m using a Canon R7 with EF70-200 lens most of the time. This is a rather heavy setup (4ish lbs) and in my opinion this small video head does an admirable job, but its not ideal for my use/setup.Since buying this and using the performance is in some ways great and in others leaves me wanting. Whether that’s the fault of the product or simply me hoping/asking for more than I should expect from a budget video pan head is a question I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to answer. In short, after watching/reading dozens of reviews about video pan heads, they all seem to conclude that you get what you pay for. This is considered a budget video head and it performs like one. Its good for what you get, but I am left wondering if I would do much better by spending much more money for a ‘better’ video head.Let me explain what I mean by ‘wanting’ and why I’m considering upgrading. My camera rig is a decent and common setup for sports photography (and videography, though that could be debated). Its not light and the longer lens makes the balance somewhat awkward. This video head (like all budget video heads) use a simple tension knob to control the tilt adjustment. Its very hard to find the best place for tension in my case. I often have it loose so that I have free control over tilt, but then I’m actively holding the camera up to keep from falling over. If I turn the dial enough to hold the camera up, then there will be jerkiness to tilting movement that isn’t desireable when shooting video. I don’t have a problem with panning, though for my shots I do need to adjust tilt to follow the game when near the sidelines. I think I would have these issues with just about any other similarly priced, ‘budget’ video head. Video heads that have proper built in weight-balanced adjustment of tilt will cost at least 2x as much as I paid here. Do I need a better video pan/tilt head as a hobbyist, father taking video and photos of his son’s games? Probably not— this is working pretty well considering, but I’ll likely purchase something better eventually.

It works for what I bought it for. Even though I'm using a telephoto/ teleconverter combo on it, it holds steady enough for my needs. For the money, you get a pretty good deal, and I already had a 3leggedthing tripod so it mounts well to the tripod legs. good buy.
