Just what the doctor ordered when dealing with damaged threads. Square shape may seem strange at first but actually is a benefit when it comes to starting these thread chasers. Use in same application as when tapping new threads. Start the thread file, advance a 1/4 turn then back out to remove the cuttings. Once you get the hang of using this tool you will find yourself reaching for this every time you face damaged threads.

Files are correct (thread pitch matches label), but a few things aren't the greatest. First, the stamps that say the thread pitch are light and hard to read. Second, there are two files for 12, 16, and 20 TPI. Why not just include a few more different thread pitches?Otherwise, they function as they should for restoring threads.

Very heavy-duty, in fact very heavy. I had not owned thread chasers previously, using small jewler's files to touch-up threads after cutting a bolt, and was surprised at the weight of each item and delighted at how easy it is to use. Now, I don't cut bolts every day, but when I do this kit comes in handy. I would have preferred if they used different color handles for the metric, SAE fine, and SAE coarse threads, but I can live with the red on all three. Now I travel with the coarse file in my RV, as there are several bolts that extend under the chassis that I find need my attention rather too frequently.Recommended, would buy again.

I can't tell you how many times I have sat fixing damaged threads on a bolt with a knife edge file. These files are made for the job. They come a set of 3 covering a variety of sizes of bolts. They are a great addition to my tool box. Recommend.

The stamped markings for the 3 different files have 3 different stamping depths, from deep easily readable depths to difficult-to-read stampings, to basically unreadable stampings, as others have posted photos of.Search the internet for how to use thread restorer chaser files, this is an ok set for 1 out of 3 primary thread restorer tasks. These types of files are good for and intended for restoring the threads that are damaged at the starting tip of a bolt/screw, and are the most difficult restorers to use. While they can be used for restoring thread damage further down the threads of a bolt, it is much better to have a complete set of thread restorer nuts, and bolts, along with these files, to restore thread damage on a male bolt away from the starting end, or the female threaded hole, along with these manual files to fix the damage on the end of the bolt so you can then thread on a thread restorer nut for additional damage further down the bolt.

I didn't know that these existed and I have used small files and hacksaw blades in the past to clean up threads. These will come in very useful in the future. I will get out into the garage and practice on some threads. I studied some youtube videos to see how to use these files. Each file is stamped with the size. Some of the stampings are not that visible. I may try and get some white paint into the lettering grooves to make the labeling easier to see.The rubber red handles are comfortable and need to be be removed and reversed to get to the other end of the file which has a different thread size. I would recommend wearing gloves when you do this otherwise you will end up dragging your thumb across the file which is pretty sharp and abrasive. In summary, a very useful tool when encountering damaged threads.

Previously, I had no idea that this sort of hand tool existed but now I'm very glad it does. These came three to the set with multiple threads within each file and a red plastic handle each for grip. I had to find a video to see how these are used and that was very useful in case you aren't familiar with this tool either. Although I don't have an immediate use for these, I will sleep better knowing that if the need arises, I am equipped to restore various threads that may need it. You may also be surprised to know that these have a notable weight to them when you hold them in hand and I suppose that is necessary to be able to perform the task they are designed to do.

Sometimes thread reforming devices don't get the job done and filing the damaged threads is the only way short of installing a new bolt or purchasing a new component with a threaded part. That is where thread files come in handy. These three should handle most of your needs. One successful rethreading might even pay for the entire set if it saves you even one hour of a professional's time or weeks of waiting for a new equipment part to be delivered. So many different varieties of external thread restoration equipment should convince you that there is no one sure-fire device. Thread filing was the way it was done before all of these other devices were invented. It works, but it's labor intensive. Sometimes, there is no quick, easy solution and it requires physical effort and skill to repair something.
