As you have seen, if you can get a solid fit on the inlet (the way it is built you really cant hold the valve tight enough to get a good fit (it is too fragile)) the float valve stull does not seal.

finally got a chance to use this item. DO NOT BUY!!!!. total piece of junk. installed on the lid of a 27 gallon tote for my indoor greenhouse and initially worked. filled tote 2/3 full and stopped. great! came back an hour later and greenhouse was flooded!!! an inch of water everywhere!!! both failed! spent the last hour vacuuming up the water with a shop vac. thank god i had to go upstairs for something or i would have had a swimming pool. junk! junk! garbage!

Apparently not reliable. Two valves were received. One worked the other didn't. The one that works, works well.
