WHY DO THE BOATS NEED ANCHOR CHAINS?

1. If you have a boat and you have an anchor, when throwing the anchor, this chain has enough weight to position the anchor to grab when it hits bottom. Makes life easier. The 1/4" chain will work on a larger anchor up to midsize, it is works good on 16' kayaks, 28' pontoon and 20’ boat in the intracoastal. But if your boat is above 20ft you can choose a heavier chain such as 5/16" chain.

The shackles make for easy attachment points, and using a wire tie on each shackle pin after fully tightening them to keep them from backing out. That's what the hole in the shackle pin is for. Plus, anchor chains provide a strong connection between the anchor and line. If you boat and anchor without the chain, you may want to consider this upgrade and add the chain.
3. The purpose, according to boating magazine is: "Regardless of boat style, all anchoring systems should have a boat length of stainless-steel chain separating the rope and the anchor. The chain prevents chafing and abrasion. Its weight also keeps the anchor’s shank horizontal, allowing the flukes to better bite the bottom."
