The polished back bevel helps to produce a high quality finish with exceptional results on softer, traditionally more difficult woods like pine. Illustrated instructions are supplied. Made from high speed steel and then properly hardened and tempered. They will keep a sharpened edge about six times longer than carbon steel and resist "blued" softening from overheating during grinding or from heavy turning. They come with hard White Ash handles and brass ferrules. Handle is 10 inches long with the tool being 6 1/4 inches in length. Overall length is 16 1/4 inches.

I will master those nasty skews of mine but until then, this works great. Need to practice but it's a pleasure to use.

Works well, some time getting used to it is needed.

Works as described. It is a nice alternative to a skew or bowl gouge for shaping and finishing an object. I ordered it for use on soft wood that I was making into candle holders. My existing tools tore into the cross grain and I was unable to get them sharp enough to make clean cuts, but the Spindlemaster worked well, as suggested by many Web sites and a book I have on the use of wood lathes. One nice feature is the way one sharpens it - by sliding the flat side on a sharpening block. There is no need to tailor cuts or edges. Just keeping the flat side flat is enough.
