Fit my 1900s railroad pick like a glove with no alterations needed. It's taken abuse for a good few months now with 0 damage 5 stars!

Made for anything, incredably well made solid Hickory, these fit perfectly in the hand. Little wonder the railroads use them to this day. I took a chance due to the name on Amazon and decided to try this on my large, double blade mall.The business end will handle anything up to a huge blade with a #7 hole; probably an #8 or better and those are larger than I have ever seen. I even heated my blade to nearly red and couldn't pound my #6 within an inch of the handle's end, so I simply cut off nearly all the remainder. Not to worry if it ever gets lose because one of those hammer handle steel wedges will easily fix that after pounding the back tight. The yellow end also cushions the shock to your hands, I've found. That alone is worth the purchase price.I had my 100yo Grandfather's who's Hickory handle finally rotted away because I stored it outside too long and broke the it cutting a root. The blade allmost hit me as well.Nearly broken hearted (sentamental) I was disapointed with the reviews of every one, priced low to high, Amazon sells. FIBERGLASS, my 1st choice all were crap. So I switched search criterior to highest rated and BINGO!If you don't do any heavy use, just gardening, Harbor Freight will ship you a nice looking one with the head for less than this handle, or just buy Amazon's fiberglass choice, BTW.Same "Only use Hickory" holds true for shovels, sledge hammers, axes , hammers or anything. I actually changed out my fiberglass hammer handle to one.Spending the extra money means no chance if injury or something your grandchildren will be using 100 years later.
