When sealing ducts and other surfaces for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC), it's essential to have a strong, long-lasting foil tape that can stand up well to hot and cold temperatures. The 3M Foil Tape 3340 has the combination of 2.0 mil aluminum foil backing and strong, pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive that gives our tape a superb operational temperature range of -40°F (-40°C) to 300°F (149°C) making it ideal for sealing rigid fiberglass duct boards and flexible air duct systems. The foil backing also serves as an excellent barrier against moisture, dust and many chemicals — making it strong, durable and long-lasting. The very low moisture vapor transmission rate makes the tape a good sealant and the acrylic adhesive supplies superior temperature and UV resistance to give you a strong, lasting and reliable bond. It also has an easy releasing poly coated kraft paper liner to protect the adhesive and keep the tape ready for use. 3340 tape meets requirements for UL 181 A-P and UL 181 B-FX Listings as a measure of reliability and quality standards. 3M Foil Tape 3340 is used in a variety of applications including heating ventilation air conditioning (HVAC), duct closure, vapor seal on reinforced fiberglass duct board, rigid fiber glass duct board, and flexible air ducts and air connectors across a number of industries, including: transportation, specialty vehicle, metalworking, construction, automotive, military and government, general industrial, MRO, electronics and aerospace.

Purchased for A/C ducts in the attic, the insulation was torn and falling off. This seems to be top quality tape, very sticky, cuts with heavy duty scissors or shears, a little pricy, but you get what you pay for! All the other 3M products I purchased have been of top quality! I most likely will need a second roll of tape to really secure the duck work, it even looks good and professional, words often not used when I do a job!

If you need to use tape to stick something to your vehicle, this is the tape to use. I've used it the last few years to tape insulation around the bottom of my RV and works great. When you need to remove it, it does not leave any residue at all. It fairly easy to remove. Be sure you clean the area before trying to apply it, especially from moisture.

I mean really...it's a 3M tape/adhesive product so why cut corners? In my opinion 3M is the only reasonable answer to the question of what brand of tape to buy no matter what your primary trade is. Happy with this purchase and will buy again as needed.

This tape was used on an air duct of a large woodworking dust collector. I had to take apart a duct to clear some larger pieces of wood that got caught in a corner of the installation. This tape was used for the original installation, so I bought more of the same when it needed to be taken apart and redone . The original tape made it through freezing winter temperatures, and now the new tape is taking the springtime heat (accentuated by being near a west-facing wall) without any problems. Definitely 'thumbs up' for a product that works exactly as it should!

This tape is easy to use and very sturdy. It does not easily tear apart and should last for a long time. We actually used this tape to adhere insulation to a home made grill. It worked great. The grill gets hot and the tape has stayed on securely. It proves that it will hold up for other HVAC projects too.

This is the good one, this stuff is tough too. I always like to have some on hand for projects around the house. You’d be surprised how useful this tape can be once you have some on hand. My dad always used this at work (HVAC) so I’ve learned over the years how to properly use this tape to make my A/C more efficient. This is great for taping up cracks around your furnace or condenser coil. You can also use it to tape the chill line near the outside unit if your lines have areas that are exposed, or if there are places that are beginning to be exposed. You can buy cheaper brands, but there’s some things you shouldn’t buy off brand, and this one of them. Buy the legit 3M tape, it’s worth it. It’ll save you money in the long run as you won’t constantly be having to patch up previous applications. I’m not a certified HVAC tech, but after riding with my dad from elementary school until I graduated, I do know to highly recommend this specific tape. This can also be used on small windows, such as the small window panes on some front/back doors, and for lots of other applications. If you’re a homeowner, I truly believe a roll of this tape should be in your home tool box.

Just insulated the furnace duct work in the basement. This tape is so easy to use and sticks and stays to the aluminum foil insulation I got from amazon. When sealing seams it is best to tear off sections of tape that are manageable. Just peal back a starter piece of paper backing and peel if off as you go. This will also seal furnace joints in the duct work.

I use this on clean, oil free duct work. Yes this is an expensive foil tape (cheaper if you buy it by the case) but the cold weather tack is effective and the adhesion will last for years even with the temperature cycles. I prefer the the thicker tapes (this is one of them) and 3M uses a quality adhesive. Tack is when the tape is first applied (TO A CLEAN SURFACE) and adheres to the surface. Adhesion is the ability to remain attached to the surface for a length of time and through temperature cycles. Flagging is the tape releasing from the surface (Adhesion has failed) and with the cheap tapes this happens in a few years. This is a pressure sensitive tape and MUST be smoothed down with an applicator and NOT just your hand.I believe in doing a job once and to the best of my ability and this tape has met my expectations

Very impressed with how well it sticks and seals for my use case which was sealing air gaps in our HVAC system. The tape is wider and thicker than typical HVAC tape which is great. Definitely worth the cost and then some. My Price - $ 18.88

This is thick foil tape with a high temperature acrylic adhesive designed for sealing attic bathroom exhaust hoses etc with prominent code compliance labeling. It has a much stronger smell than other foil tapes I have used--definitely more of a pro class product and 0.5” wider than common foil tapes as well.Due to its thickness, it is also less conformable than what is ideal for average furnace and duct seam sealing purposes. I prefer thinner general purpose foil tapes in that role (Climaloc, Nashua 322, 3M 3311 etc). This does provide an added layer of protection for applying to sharp irregular surfaces as it does not tear easily, but it is also thick enough for its edges to cut you if you aren't careful.

I used this metal (aluminum) tape to seal garage door insulation panels cut from 1 1/2 inch rigid R-Tech insulation. Its worked perfectly. From it's characteristics I would recommend it for metal duct sealing and anything dealing with insulation. It is very sticky, especially to itself. It also conforms to any surface and remains - very much like aluminum foil. Bend it in place and it stays. Two minor complaints. The price - and when you have to peel the backing of the tape its can take a few moments to get a corner started - remember to peel off small lengths of the backer as you go. No long pieces, as it will curl back on itself and stick together - not fun - especially at the top of a ladder.
