After checking a few dozen options, I selected these for a basement staircase upgrade. The house was built in the early 1960's and contains a lot bad decisions over the decades I want to remedy. That said the staircase side rails (currently a clothesline through eyelets) would need to connect two wood guards that are offset almost an inch from each other. I ordered these hoping the length was correct and the screw-holes would line up with both boards. They do. They are also flexible enough to handle the inch or so of offset between the two mounting points.Since they are outdoor rated, I'll probably use any leftover ones outside to secure or beautify some bits around my garden.So yes, I'm sure they make a good porch guard, but they are perfect for fixing bad engineering or alignment situations in older homes like mine.
