I didn't have really high expectations at this price point. I tried it with an HC-V770 (HD) and an HC-VX-981 (4K). With the 981, there were no issues at all. The autofocus continued to work reasonably well -- I got a wider shot without losing much clarity. It very definitely can solve some problems for me. With the 770, it also worked pretty well, with autofocus behaving as expected. However, ion that camera, at the widest zoom, I got small black areas in the corners. If I zoomed in just slightly less than the widest setting, there are no problems, and the resulting picture is still considerably wider than when using only the built-in lens.I did a little experimenting with the macro element by itself and it definitely did allow me to autofocus in much tighter than with the factory setup.I would definitely recommend. At this price, it makes the camera much more useful without paying for an expensive camera upgrade.
