It folds up and is compact, but that doesn’t make it lighter to carry in a backpack. I ended up removing the third tray to reduce the weight. Also the ramp and the second section has a gap even after tensioning the wing nut, where some sand can escape out the side. Would be better buying a solid piece that’s much shorter as all the gold gets caught in the black matting anyway.

I received this and when you assemble it the three section are flopping all over the place. There are two studs that are placed where the main panels come together but no hardware to lock them down. Consider the price they could have included that. I had to drive to a hardware store and get large washers and wing nuts then put it together but it’s still floppy unless you bring a pair of pliers and screwdriver at you can tighten down the hinge screws hard enough to keep it ridged. I should have returned it.

I picked this up for my son who's been into metal detecting, and occasional gold panning at tourist-type locations. Thought it would be fun to try sluicing on our own, but haven't had a chance yet. Still, our sluice came with all of the pieces and it' fairly easy to set up and pack back up. It's hard to say if this would be good for someone into serious panning, but should be more than adequate for amateurs.

Item arrived in good time - However, normally folding sluice boxes have wing nuts that are tightened once the unit unfolds.ALthouth this unit came with 2 screws and related wing nuts for the feeder attachment... Once the unit is opened, there are no wing nuts included to hold the sluice box open on the threaded bolts. :(Yes... The ripple plates have wing nuts... But it appears to be missing the wing nuts to hold the item open in a rigid position. Without these nuts, it allows the unit to fold and flex. :(

This is definitely the most convenient sluice box I've encountered - lightweight and compact (I can even get in in my backpack!). No gold yet, but it works as well as any other well designed sluice box.This is definitely the box you want to take when you are prospecting!

Missing 2 wing nuts for locking the sections after unfolding and very thin matting miners moss.
