This ball mount is designed for cameras and video cameras, but it also works very well as an Alt/Az mount for telescopes, as can be seen in the pics of my Orion StarBlast 90mm refractor. With the Artcise having a 77 pound weight rating, the tripod, supporting the ball mount, would likely fail before the ball mount would. My telescope, scope rings, and base plate only weigh about 8 lbs, so the ball mount performs smoothly and with little effort. There are two control knobs. The smaller knob loosens and tightens the horizontal rotation of the ball mount while the larger knob loosens and tightens the 54mm ball itself. The bottom of the mount has 3/8” screw attachment point and a screw-in sleeve, in case your tripod has just a 1/4” screw.I really like this mount and I appreciate the value it provides to me. Highly recommend.

Does a great job with camera and lens under six pounds. I’ve used it with my 150-600mm sigma and it can’t hold in place, however that lens with camera body weighs about ten pounds. Still a good buy for landscape and portrait photographers.

I like the larger ball which does not need to be crushed to obtain a tight fit, carries the weight of the cameras nicely and also works well with a telescope too.

This ballhead doesn't have a seperate friction knob. But I liked the arrangement of the two knobs better. I also have a model with the friction control. Just slightly adjust the ball locking knob for friction. I haven't used this head for photography yet. Got I mainly for a large format view camera. But I have spent many hours using it with a spotting scope. Watching wildlife. On the mountainside above where I live. Best way to use it is to rotate the ball. So the scope is off to the side. Like moving a camera from landscape to portrait. Now it is simular to a gimbal. This is a great set up for the scope. It's stable without having the flip flop of the ball. But you have vertical and side ti side panning. The friction is a plastic liner. That the ball is sitting in. Tighten the clamping knob clamps everything around the ball. I do notice a small amount of plastic "dust" on the ball from wearing plastic on mettle. I don't think it will be an issue. It still should provide many years of use. The panning lock screw is a clamping action. And not a set screw tightening. Straight into the bace of the head. The way many heads do. Wich does reduce some movement ( sideways/ panning) when locking it in place. But still noticeable with magnification when scoping. I don't think it will effect my photography. Shooting things in the 8-20 ft distance.

Very pleased with ball head, made my monopod more usable. I compared to my MAGICBAL of similar size and am very happy with purchase.Though not at same level as similar sized MAGICBALL, it costs 1/4 as much, giving it great value.Functionally, it compared well with my MAGICBALL.D850 with heavy 35mm sigma art lens held very tight without having to wrench it down.Loosened, the camera moved smoothly and easily.Knobs work well with weakened hands. Fit and finish are good.

Exactly what I needed. I spent a long period of time looking for a cost effective ball head and this one fits the bill perfectly.
