The hood holds its shape, so if you throw it in a bag for long periods of time, expect it to come out bent/squished. Mine arrived with a bit of deformation out of the box. Expect bad deformation to potentially show up in your shots when fully extended on wider angle lenses. When in its intended shape however, this isn't really a problem, so it should work fine as long as you take care of it. Would have been nice if the business end had a metal ring like the mount end, to keep its shape better. Also, the rubber is quite tacky and picks up lint and dirt easily. Best to keep it in a clean microfiber pouch... but then you run the risk of it deforming, which is what happened to me. Maybe a plastic case would be better.

I love rubber lens hoods, they're much easier to set than plastic ones. Just be careful if you're using a zoom lens, you might see it in the corners of your pictures sometimes.

I got it to protect my lenses. I needed this because I am famous for bashing my lenses on hard objects and harming them. It only got a three because it cannot be used fully extended without clipping the edges of the photo. I didn't know about that. I guess that's why just about everybody has a tulip hood for their lens. However it serves the purpose for which it was needed. I just don't like that it clips the corners of the photo. I have to remember to collapse it when I need to take a photo.

Excellent product....does what is supposed to do. Good quality. Delivered 4 days before specified time. Very Good service. You can use it either ways. BUT NEVER USE IT WITHOUT ATTACHING A LENS FILTER. you can attach the hood to the camera on to the lens filter and the screw on the hood OR you also can attach the hood to the lens and then screw on the filter! BUT NEVER USE IT WITHOUT A FILTER, JUST IN CASE YOU ACCIDENTLY DROP THE CAMERA LENSE FACING DOWN, THIS WILL PROTECT THE LENS AND SAVE YOU GREAT HEART ACHES, MONEY AND TROUBLE!!

My photography instructor in college, whom I hold in much esteem, had one very similar to this on his favorite old Canon 35mm and raved about its merits. So when I started shopping around for a lens hood, everyone tried to steer me in the direction of the hard plastic types that are a bit more common. I sifted through Amazon until I found these, keeping my photography instructor's preference in mind. I ordered two and I LOVE them. One of the best things about these is that when you sit your camera down, you have a nice little bouncy "seat" for your camera lens to rest on, so it doesn't come in direct contact with hard surfaces. You can easily collapse it back when you don't want it, and quickly bring the hood forward when you do. The only thing I found is that you have to watch to make sure it hasn't squished into view of your camera if you've sat it somewhere or accidentally moved the hood when it hits your body in some way. No more hassle than making sure the lens cap is off! And it fit perfectly even with my added filters on my lens. I may have to get an additional longer hood for extremely sunny conditions, but this one is perfect for everyday use. Also, this is great price with wonderfully fast shipping. I highly recommend it!

Was delivered promptly and works well but important note regarding the size - it is only 58MM on the side that attaches to the camera, the other side is much larger ~65MM? which means that you can't attach your 58MM filters on after the hood, the hood needs to be the last thing on.

So one of my major grievances with most lens hoods is their box design. Now for a higher end lens, this doesn't pose a problem, but for an entry level lens, it's huge. Assuming you're looking at this hood, I'm going to assume you aren't sporting a professional lens. The issue I've found with most hoods is since they attach to the focus ring, focusing the camera will take the hood out of its ideal orientation. Not with this one. With it being circular, it doesn't matter where your focus lies. I also like the fact that there are different steps of the hood to make it one of the versatile accessories you will have in your bag. I've shot with this hood from 18mm all the way to 300mm, and must say I was pleased with it all the way. It's easy to clean, easy to store, and so far from fragile it's ridiculous. I've stored this in some pretty terrible conditions, and it always comes right back to its shape. It even looks cool!

I chose this one in part on the reviews and because it is whole compared to a flower type. It appears to be good quality rubber that is soft and flexible. Design allows for three positions of use which is convenient. It screwed onto my Canon lens quite easily and with no binding. The one thing I was wondering with this was what about use with a circular polarizer, which I am waiting to arrive yet (different order). The front of the plastic ring is grooved for filter addition - the nice surprise is it looks like I can put the polarizer on the front if it because the ring sticks out far enough. You won't be able to turn the polarizer with hood fully extended but looks like you could if it is fully contracted. The other reason I wanted the full hood was if I attached the hood to the polarizer I could turn the hood and polarizer and not have to worry about hood coverage for any shot like I would with the flower type. I do get cropping with it at full extension when I have my 18-55 zoom lens below 24 zoom. I kind of expected that it would, but was pleasantly surprised that is below standard wide angle zoom. The tag along Magic microfiber cloth is a nice touch amenity. The Vendor appears to be quite committed to quality and customer satisfaction and I would have no problem buying from them again - I ordered evening of a Wednesday and have Amazon Prime so I get free 2 day and was able to get it on Friday afternoon, which was a little surprising.

This item arrived very quickly, was a great price and offers everything the product description claimed it to be. For being a lens hood it seems very usable and a durable design. I like how small and compact it can be and still very usable in it's functionality. Using this for my new T3i Cannon and the default standard lens and it works great! I am impressed, still allows the lens cap to screw on and everything, plus it is very durable and nice looking! Great customer service too with a custom note from CEO if I have any problems it assured me I am covered 100%. That's the kind of customer service and follow through I wish all companies had! Thanks and will order again when the need occurs.
