This sound mat is not dense enough to reduce any sound decibels. I tested with two different meters with the same results. These panels resulted in no reduction in decibels readings. They are extremely thin you can see through them at the low points. A thick pad of carpet would have a better effect.

This is a good foam material for soaking up sound but if you have room for something thicker or can afford something more dense you will probably be much happier with that. I guess it all depends what you are using it for. This is very light weight so that might be a plus for you. The foam in the picture is cut perfectly in the same place on every piece so it makes you think you can match up the peaks to hide the seams. This foam is not cut like that. You won't be able match up the pieces to each other so if that bothers you, spend more money. (see pictures)

My kids use these behind their computers to dampen the sound of their lively conversations with on-line friends. It does seem to help reduce the sound level from their rooms. I had ordered a different set about a year ago for my son and my daughter thought it would be a good iddea for her room as well. These are a little thinner and less dense foam than the other set I ordered. I think they still work though.

These egg crate style acoustic panels are fine and will cover a small area with the 12 included pieces. There's no adhesive backing, so you'll need to use the included double sided tape for installation.Since it's just basic egg crate looking foam, I'm using these behind a photographic background to help reduce audio/noise issues in that area and because it won't be seen back there. Not that it's ugly, it's just plain old egg crate foam.I'd say the density of the foam is fair and overall these are fine for what they are.
