This kit has both the plastic backing ring and the metal retaining ring for your headlights. I have a Jeep Wrangler and have tried out several different headlights over the years, which required the removal and attachment of the retaining ring. This constant on and off process has bent the tabs that hold the screws and seems to have made them looser over time. Additionally, the factory rings are silver, which did not match my black grill. I did not need the plastic backing ring yet, but I did hold on to it as I am sure I will need it at some point as everything falls apart on Jeeps eventually. The retaining ring that comes with this kit is already painted black and looked great with the black grill. The screw tabs lined up perfectly, and it also holds my headlight much tighter against the backing ring and I feel like the light is pointed in a better direction after installing it. The old ring was so loose the light wobbled a bit. This is a great kit to secure your Jeep headlights and update the look.

I deducted one star because the trim ring was too shallow to use, but the mounting bracket worked very well. If you are specifically looking for a black mounting ring for a certain aesthetic, this may not work for you. I would have preferred black, but the rings are so small that the difference is hardly noticeable. However, for better functionality, the rings should be at least 1/4" deeper. As you can tell with the lights on you can't see the rings at all.
