This thing is pure genius. Makes drawing large circles a breeze and you're only limited by the size of your ruler. I use it for self-drafting sewing patterns. It was a little too narrow to fit over my wooden yardstick, but it attached to my metal one perfectly. Even though my metal one is much thinner than the slot on each post, when you twist the knobs down to tighten, that's plenty to hold the posts snugly in place.

I bought this set to be able to draw large scale arcs or circles, but the set only works on narrow metal rulers. Does not fit wooden yard sticks or large (60"+) metal rulers which are generally wider than 1.34 in. Even on a smaller metal straight edge it does leave much room for the cap that fits over the threaded end to secure onto the ruler.

Very adaptable and fits both wooden and. metal yardsticks. The lead is very hard and breaks easily when too much pressure is applied.

Solución muy ingeniosa

Great concept but the final product is junk, took a lot of effort to get the job done. For less cost, less time, and less effort, you can tape a nail and your choice of writing utensil to any stick, ruler, or tree branch and get the same or better results. Don't waste your money on this. The plastic caps that cover the lead and point obviously weren't designed for this product, don't fit properly and quickly broke. Had trouble finding a ruler of appropriate thickness that will work with this, ended up buying an aluminum yardstick from the orange big box store and used bits of cardboard to make the parts fit securely. The part that holds the lead only comes with a tiny piece that broke almost immediately and I had to buy more just so i could use this product.

Received in good time, but when I received it, it only came with one lead. I measured it (2.4mm or .095inch) and proceeded to look for more online. I wasn't having much luck until I ran across "compass leads". They are advertised as being 2mm in diameter. Amazon has plenty. You just have to use the right search terms. The compass works great too, but the leads will break if you aren't careful. The slot is just over 1/8 inch wide, so won't fit some rulers/yardsticks. Stainless steel rules work, but swim in the slot. You just have to make sure the pieces are tightened well, but not too tight or you risk stripping the threads.

As some people have said, this may not fit every yard stick, and it didn't fit mine. So I just made one myself out of a strip of oak and it works fine. Yeah, it doesn't have the measurements on the stick itself, but that isn't accurate either because it's hard to eyeball exactly where the center of the pin/pencil piece is to the exact measurement. I found it easier, more accurate, and faster to just measure the distance between the pin point to pencil point on a yardstick.

I am an illustrator and have been designing coins lately so I needed a tool that would help me make big, perfect circles. This yardstick compass is excellent for that! You just slide the anchor and drawing points on the ruler, set them at your desired lenght and you are ready, not much to it. Excellent product.

These scribes attach to a metal ruler (not supplied) or any other thin, flat slat. They lock in place nicely, therefore holding their measure. Very easy to set up and use with protective caps for the point and the lead.
