Extremely sharp at center, but…. Well built but I could barely turn the focus ring. Ordered this lens because reviews said focusing was silent. It wasn’t but not so bad external micro wouldn’t be ok.

Excelente lente.

Its a bit on the bulky side considering this is a 50mm lens. Solid metal build. F1.8 gives you flexibility to shoot day n night. Apperture ring could have been better, mine squeeqs when the dial goes around f4. Since i mostly control the aperture from my camera, it does not bother me.Focus ring is smooth.Considering the price, there are certainly some room for improvement on focusing speed as this lens has focus breathing issue. Also if it can be made a little lighter, that will improve handling and usage to a great extent.

I get some strange black lines that run across the lens when ever I am recording. The pictures are good but just not the best for video.

so this lens is pretty nice, bigger than normal 50m, however my biggest gripe is that the switch for A/M is very cheap, it always moves when i store my camera and i always have to double check its on Auto Focus, even when out shooting i catch myself checking to make sure the switch is on Auto.im very displeased with that switch, for something that costs almost 300 bucks you would expect a better switch to swap A/M.the focus ring is very hard to turn, you have to use some muscle its not smooth at all.luckily i dont use it much, but its a big let down.now thats already 2 reasons i would not recommend this lens, small details that dont have much to do with your pictures however they are flaws that i feel interrupt your handling overall.im going to use it for a few more weeks and may just send it back.so if you are looking to test this out i would say go for it if you dont have a budget and just want something new to try, otherwise if you are more on the budget side i would steer clear of this lens and look elsewhere or at another 50mm option.i use this lens on my Sony A6000 for reference.my 24-70mm sony lens actually out performs this exact lens which is a bit surprising.however you can get some great shots with the 50mm.but keep in mind this lens will have updates to firmware so it will only get better internally overtime, exterior wise though, i doubt they will fix the switch and focus ring issues.so for me my overall rating is a 3, if i decide to keep this product i will do a more in-depth review.

This is a bit of a hefty lens at 400+g but the sharpness you get is extremely impressive. F1.8 is a little soft with slight color fringing on highly contrasting lines but by F2.2, it's absolutely razer sharp with no color issues. AF is excellent and it's all around an absolute beast of a lens. This lens punches way WAY above its price class. The two negatives here are the weight and how easily the AF/MF switch can be knocked. Both of these are more of an annoyance than negative. One thing to note here is that this is a full frame lens. F1 8 on APS-C is actually F2.7. At F2.2 on a full frame, the DOF is still too shallow for a portrait from ~8ft away. You can't get the tip of the nose and the ears in focus until F2.8 on a full frame. I feel like this distinction between APS-C and full frame has been lost in the wave of APS-C cameras.

Build Quality:- It feels solid (lightweight metal)- The focus and aperture rings turn VERY smoothly, some may feel they are too tight (but I love it)- There is no weather sealing gasket around the lens mount (but at this price point it was not expected)- The one major flaw is the AF/MF switch, which is of poor quality and is NOT tightly assembled- Lens hood is nicely designed but has some slight up/down movement when secured to the lensPerformance:- Just as sharp if not sharper than all other Sony FF E Mount lenses in this price range- The aperture ring is de-clicked and cannot be altered otherwise- AF is snappy and has smooth transitions from foreground to background (and vice versa)- The AF motor is audible but not distracting (stepper motor)- Eye AF is great and video tracking is just as good as any other lens in this price bracket- There is a USB-C port on the lens mount which allows for firmware updates via a computerConclusion:If 7artisans can fix the AF/MF build quality issue, I would recommend this over the similarly priced Sony "Nifty Fifty" mainly because of its mostly metal build and how it balances nicely with an Alpha 7 FF or APS-C camera. I enjoyed the AF transitions being smoother than others in this category despite the audible noise from the motor. Overall, well done by 7artisans considering this is their first attempt at an Autofocusing lens for the E mount system.

All the reviews were right! This is definitely a bargain. For a full frame camera 50mm with this level of AF and stabilization is a sweet deal. The lense doesn’t fit as snugly on the body as a sigma would. But it’s acceptable. Also the manual or auto focus button looks out of place. But would definitely recommend!
