This hop spider works great for its intended purpose. But be careful - the edges where the mesh meets the rings on the ends of the tube contain sharp, stabby bits of mesh that are likely to poke you when handling the spider, especially when cleaning. You may want to use high-grit sandpaper to round off the sharp edges.

Very solid hop spider for hopping in the kettle. I actually use this with an Anvil all-in-one system and it fits very nicely. I appreciate the 800 micron mesh because I want as much of the hop oils and small particles in the wort as possible while leaving most of the heavy sediment behind, and this does that. I like a hazy beer so this works well for my tastes. However, if you use Irish moss or whirlfloc I'm sure you can clean your wort up even if you use this spider.This was the perfect size hop spider for my needs so I'm very pleased with it. The construction seems solid and I expect to use this for a very long time.

Works well. I use it to filter out hops from the boil. I put this into the wort, then the siphon into the hop spider.

I ordered this item specifically so that i wouldn't have to deal with the build-up of the "crud" that i have to deal with using 300um or 400um (micron) screen mesh spiders in my boil. Furthermore, i love IPAs so i wanted to be able to put 5oz (or more) over the course of the boil. This thing is perfect! Yeah, you might get a little bit of the hops coming through the screen, but none of that stuff will clog my pump and it will ALL nicely settle in the fermenter.The screen is more sturdy than i thought it would be with a solid ring at both the top and bottom. The welds are nice and the hooks are an added margin of safety when using a DIY spider arm assembly at the top of the pot.

The product is larger, deeper than other models I've used, holds larger quantities (of hops) and the hook does allow cover to be in place while using.But, the mesh size (800) is too large, allows much of dispersed pellet hops to pass through to wort, creating excess sludge and causing scorching on heater plate, tripping of thermal switch safety element, messier cleanup. Going back to smaller 300 mesh hop spider.CTCT

I bought this for brewing in a Grainfather. Overall it worked well, with only a few complaints.Pros-solid construction-good mesh size, kept a lot of mess in the spider during brew.Cons-Was NOT long enough to reach the water when doing a partial boil in a grainfather. I had to set it on the bottom, which I did not like. This placed the spider directly on top of the heater. It was fine for a full boil, worked as expected.

This is a very nice size and it fits inside the Grainfather very nicely, the hook (or bracket) hangs on the support ring allowing the glass lid to fully seat allowing a faster boil. My old spider hung on the outer wall of the mash tun and the lid would not fully seat on the top. A minor thing to be sure but I almost had the lid fall off due to the lack of seating. I'm not sure about the larger mesh since I use hop pellets and it looks like the pellets will possibly get through the mesh when they dissolve. I'll update when I do my next batch.Update: After several batches I have to reduce my rating by one star. This will work great if you use flowers instead of pellets but it doesn't work well with pellets. The mesh is too large.
