Does what it says. Easy enough operation. Beware though, if you frequently get splahed, you might not want this automatic light. It's very sensitive, so if only one drop of water falls on the connection points, it will activate. Other than that, it's an excellent product!

I hope I never have to use this purchase, but I'm glad that it fits well inside of my Mustang EP 38 PFD. I bought an extra for my toddlers Stohlquist PFD too.

I don't recommend this as a safety light for kayakers or canoeists, or anyone who could wear it in the rain or in damp conditions. I have an ACR personal locator beacon and like that product, but I was very disappointed by this one. It was designed for life vests on cruise ships where it would be high and dry until an emergency occurred. It is not appropriate on a PFD of a small boater and especially not the PFD of a sea kayaker or river kayaker because it is never high and dry in those conditions. The turn-on contacts are too exposed, and it turns on accidentally altogether too often in rain, as a result of paddle splash or wave splash, or when you throw the PFD in a boat locker or trunk of the car together with other wet gear. The design could EASILY be improved by shielding the contacts from accidental contact with rain or wet gear and yet still turn on reliably when immersed in water. In short, the design may be good for cruise ships, but it's very inappropriate for any other boating use. If you regularly wear a PFD, this is not for you.The strobe can't readily be removed once affixed, and it can't be transferred to another PFD without destroying the plastic attachment. The battery can't be replaced, so if it turns on accidentally in the trunk of the car, and you don't notice it quickly and turn it off, the battery may be burned out when you next use the PFD, and you won't know that until you really need the light and find it's dead and you have no light. I constantly worry about the latter. Any active small boater will find this an unreliable emergency strobe for the foregoing reason, and it's an ongoing pain to keep it from going off unexpectedly.

I attached this to my auto inflatable life jacket which I wore when sailing offshore. The strobe turned on 3-4 times per night by accident. Luckily, it is very easy to turn off. It took a few minutes to restore my night vision each time.

Not recommended for most uses for which I imagine most people would want to purchase this item. The light activates any time moisture contacts the sensor, which is exposed. Small amounts of fine mist from a broken wave or even high humidity/light dew will set it off. I recently wore mine while sailing offshore. The light activated several times per hour in ideal sailing conditions. I found myself having to hit the “off” button regularly to reset the light after activation. When night fell, I had to remove the light as it would activate and hurt our night vision. I cannot find a use for this light. I suppose if you had a very, very dry and air conditioned place to store it and only took it out when you needed the strobe to activate, this may be something you could use - the light is bright and is clearly visible in daylight. Bottom line is that I only want this type of light to activate if I am in the water, not regularly while I am safe aboard the boat — this device does not meet that requirement.

Tested this in our pool and it has worked well. It immediately activates when it hits the water. Seems to be very bright. Hopefully I will never have to find out how well it works in a real life situation.
