I have an assortment of shop-made flexi longboards, made from 4-8mm plywood.Being able to lock in a shape to match a specific curve is a huge step up, especially for concave surfaces. The handles and turnbuckle mechanism aren't the greatest, though they do the job.I suppose it has a lot to do with what you're used to.I prefer a knob for the front handle, much like a jack plane. This design just doesn't have a good grip for the leading hand. The plastic turnbuckle is just okay.It only has about half the throw of my compass planes, which I find annoying, but is probably not a concern for most people.Being plastic, the lock nut is not very secure, so it doesn't hold a constant shape very well. That is aggravated by the fact that it's hard to resist grabbing the board by the turnbuckle, which almost invariably changes the adjustment. If you're using mesh paper, which I mostly am now, you have to decide if you're going to consider this a disposable tool, or get a roll of double sided velcro tape to use as a pad protector.Given the weakness of the plastic turnbuckle, I'm going with disposable tool here.

I work with wood, but this is great for body work or sanding any surface that has a curve to it. These are made of mid grade plastic, won’t last forever, but function well so far.
