Aeotec MultiSensor 7; ZWave sensor with motion, temperature, light readings, and more

MultiSensor 7 is the foundation of a modern smart home. Its perfectly small exterior hosts the technology for real-time intelligence. Designed and calibrated to be as accurate as it can be, MultiSensor 7’s accuracy varies as little as ±0.2%. The device measures ultraviolet light and can protect your family's health and your furniture from bleaching. With the newly added vibration sensor, MultiSensor 7 makes your environment secure like never before. MultiSensor 7 is a part of Aeotec Gen7 range of Z-Wave products. That means that it outperforms all that has come before it. It’s built around the latest Z-Wave 700 series chip and firmware, providing a 50% greater wireless range and a 250% faster communication speed over previous Z-Wave products. It has AES 128 bit security encryption built right in. You need a Z-Wave gateway which operates with the 700 series chip products to take full advantage of the device. Please consult the manufacturer of your Z-Wave hub to make sure it supports all MultiSensor 7 features. SPECIFICATIONS: Motion Sensor : 16 feet, and 120° field of view; Humidity Sensor : 20% to 95%, accuracy:+/- 5% at 77°F; Temperature Sensor : 14°F (-10°C) ~ 140°F (60°C), accuracy: +/- 32.9°F (0.5°C); Light Sensor : 0 lux to 1000 lux; Vibration Sensor : acts as tamper switch, ON or OFF; Operation Temperature (Top): -4°F (-20°C) ~ 140°F (40°C); Storing Temperature: -40°F (-40°C) ~ 176°F (80°C); Working Humidity: 8% ~ 80%; Operational site: Indoor and outdoor; Power: DC 5V 700mA or 2 x CR123A battery; Weight: 2.6 oz

Power As You Need It

MultiSensor 7 ships with two CR123 batteries. The performance of the 700 series chip provides longer battery life compared to MultiSensor 6. Of course, for demanding applications you can elect to provide constant power via the included USB cable. Powerful options for a powerful sensor.

Z-Wave Hub Required

MultiSensor 7 uses Z-Wave Plus to communicate wirelessly. That means you'll need a Z-Wave hub to use it.

Compatible gateways include Aeotec Smart Home Hub (SmartThings), Aeotec AutoPilot, Home Assistant with Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5+, HomeSeer, Hubitat, and SmartThings. Visit aeotec.com/z-wave-gateways/compatibility.html to find out which hubs Smart Switch 7 is compatible with.

The sensor pairs well and does what it promises. It just is kind of poor on motion detection range. I have to walk within 12 feet of it and wave my arms. But the other functions run well and are a good addition to my smart home.I use this with a Hubitat C-7 and it was easy to setup and configure.

I tried 6 different sensors until I found this one. My house now has 7 of these sensors and my automated lighting system works flawlessly. Easy to setup and get on the smarthings app. easy to use once they are in the smarthings app. and very dependable.

I use this with my zwave set up in Home Assistant to control my window AC unit. Overall works well for what I wanted it for. I use it via USB but also has the option for batteries. I like that they give you both options.

Just installed Aotec multi sensor this week. Pairing with hub was fine. But could not get motion detection to work. Then noticed in history that vibration alerts were activated at each movement, without touching device. Instead of monitoring for motion, I changed app to report vibration. Now motion detection alerts are working. Sounds like poor QC and testing.

Easy and simple to set up with Smartthings. I had to pair it close to the smart things hub and then move it to the location which was very far from the hub. I am using it hardwired and it is working exactly as I hoped it would. I do wish I could force it to refresh more frequently or on request especially since I have it hardwired so there should be no reason for it to save power as if it were on the battery. The motion detection seems... imperfect, but I am using it primarily for temp and humidity monitoring which works great. The light sensor and uv are surprisingly useful too.The sensors are: Motion, Temperature, Humidity, Illuminance, UV index, Battery, and device tamper alert.

Great sensor, easy to pair with my hub, very expensive but seems like you must pay for the good stuff these days.I tried multiple other similar sensors like Zooz 4-in-1 and they are not coming anywhere near this one - quickly paired with no issues to set up and start reporting quickly.

I am using three Aeotec MultiSensor 7s to monitor temperatures in a three family house with SmartThings. Two of the MS7 were working reasonably well but the temperature reports were fairly slow. Tech support said to pair the sensors again so they initialize with the new edge driver. That turned out to be a big mistake, All three MS7s now report a false low temperature by 4 or 5 degrees every hour which causes unnecessary requests for heat. The biggest problem that just started happening is all three MS7 devices just stop reporting any information and all within minutes of each other. The devices themselves have fallen as silent as the customer support. All other devices on the hub continue to work fine (even the MS6). The only way to get them back online is to restart the hub which is a big problem for a remote site. I now recover from this state with a second Smartthings that remotely reboots the hung system.Tech support says: [*crickets*]I bought these sensors for USB power option which does work nicely but the consistent false cold readings and lockups appear impossible for the company to fix. Tech support was very responsive initially but after the bad advice to install the edge driver, support has fallen completely silent, All my detailed responses to track the bad temperature readings have had no reply.I included a snap shot of the low temperature pulses all three sensors are plagued with. Also history of a sensor thrashing 2 degrees up and down over the course of a few minutes. No support for a very reproducible problem. The one MS 6 in use is fairly reliable and I recommend going with the previous version although don’t count on support in any meaningful way.

What would make you think that spending $20 more for this 6 in 1 sensor than for a fairly comparable different product is such a good idea? Easier install? Better documentation? More Features? Better range? I installed this in a Vera Plus Hub. I installed 5 of the previous AEOTEC ZW100 6 in 1 Sensors in this hub before. I thought I would be familiar with this one. 1. Install/Pairing following directions: Waste of time. There is nothing written that provides an accurate understandable procedure. I located 3 different resources, online and the paper manual, that each must have been written by 3 different individuals, with three different understandings of the procedure. This is what I discovered that worked.**Push and hold the Action Button until after the unit stops blinking red and goes white. This factory resets the sensor. Then set the hub to pairing mode. Then briefly hold the Action Button until about 1 second after it turns yellow, then release the Action Button. Wait a second, then slowly push and release the Action Button. If it doesn't turn green and flash, then push and release one more time. The Sensor and the Hub should handshake and pair. If it doesn't pair up, then un-pair the hub and delete the device in the hub. Factory Reset the sensor, try pairing again. Action Button to solid yellow, release Action Button, wait 1 second, push Action Button and release, should turn green and flash, that means paired, then extinguish to white. The hub is forced to install a Generic Device. in Advanced, you need to change Device Type to: urn:schemas-micasaverde-com:device:MotionSensor:1device_file to D_MotionSensor1.xmldevice_json to D_MotionSensorWithTamper1.jsonOn the UV Sensor, change device_json to D_UVSensor1.json although that will not make the UV sensor work in Vera. Doing this just makes it display properly on the Vera Devices page.Next... in the description for this product in Amazon it shows range as 16 feet. Thats less than the length of 3 drown men stacked on top of each other. About as tall as a 1 story house. This sensor is a mess. I do not recommend purchasing it. I purchased a Zooz 700 as well and it was simple and dropped into my system with ease.Save yourself a headache, don't buy this sensor.
