Tips for Success

  • Make sure your beans are coarsely ground: Beans that are ground to a sandy powder, like for drip coffee, can result in an over-infused coffee and make the strained coffee gritty and muddy. Your beans should look like coarse cornmeal, or even slightly rougher.
  • Use filtered water, if possible: This is just good coffee advice in general, really. Your cup of coffee will have a cleaner, sweeter flavor if you use filtered water to make it.
  • Steep for at least 12 hours: It's fine to cut this time a little short, but don't get too stingy. The coffee needs this full time to fully infuse the water. Straining too early can give you a weaker cup of coffee. Also be careful of over-steeping, which can start to extract some of those bitter flavors we're hoping to avoid. 20 hours is a good limit.
  • Chill your cold brew with coffee ice cubes: Want a totally undiluted coffee experience? Make coffee ice cubes to chill your iced coffee!

Why Should You Cold Brew Your Coffee?

  • The slow infusion pulls all the great coffee flavor from the beans (and, yes, the caffeine)
  • But it also leaves behind most of the compounds that can make coffee taste bitter and sour.
  • This means that cold brewed coffee is incredibly smooth and almost sweet-tasting. Perfect!

NOTE: When I got this cold brewer, there was almost no info at all on the product page yet. Now that I'm reviewing a couple weeks later, I see they have added more info that I would have found helpful. Please keep that in mind when you read this review.I ordered this because I had bought a large mason glass cold brewer that I never got to use because the plastic handle/lid broke off very quickly from its weight when it was accidentally knocked over after washing. Also, that brewer was a gigantic 64oz and the handle/lid stuck out so far from the carafe that it took up twice the amount of space in my fridge than it needed to. I wasn't about to buy another one like that! This brewer is smaller, looks very sleek and slim/compact and doesn't take up nearly as much space. I couldn't figure out how to get the top off for quite a while, until I finally tried shoving my thumbnail under the metal top and popped it off with some effort. There are ZERO instructions included with the brewer, although the box has a QR code to "scan for instructions." (I never use QR codes since I've been scammed by them before, so I winged it on my own.)Except for the filter and cap, the carafe is made entirely of glass -- including the handle -- which worries me. It's not very well protected in the product box, but mine arrived intact despite a very thin layer of bubble plastic so I'm glad about that. I am concerned that the handle will break at some point which will make the brewer both dangerous and unusable.3 stars from me.

This is an "ok" cold brew maker. The insert is not the best though, the cap is a pain to remove, they have a cut out area in the rubber seal which is for pouring but makes the insert sit weird and canted a bit to the side and the cap itself does not fit on the pitcher without the insert attached. I also got "silt" through the metal unlike the super fine mesh one I use in a mason jar. The pitcher itself seems nice but it also seems thin and accidently breaking it is a bit of a concern. The lack of instructions in the box is also rather annoying, don't make me go to your QR code for something you could have put on a single sheet of paper. So in my opinion it's ok but not the best.

This is a nice system and it makes a nice cup of cold brew but heads up it takes (calls for) 16 tablespoons (250 ml) of coffee for a 6 cup pitcher. The filter is a ultra fine mesh but you will need a course ground coffee. My coffee was a little finer so I did get some grounds sediment. I think I will get a better than basic coffee next time too because regular coffee maker coffee ended up being a little bitter. But perhaps I should have pulled the filter out sooner. I think it calls for 16 hours and I had it in for 20 hours. I don't use sugar but flavored creamer helped sweeten it up. All these things are part of a learning curve.I have to be honest, I think the glass, including the handle feels pretty thin. The lid that goes on top of the filter while it's "brewing" doesn't fit the top of the pitcher after you pull the filter out. It's too small. It doesn't make a lot of sense not to have a lid for the pitcher for storing in the refrigerator after it has "brewed". These are the reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I've been looking for a cold coffee brewer for a long time. I happened to see this one and though for the price it would be an excellent buy. It didn't let me down. Works just as advertised. Perfect seal with no leaks.

I just received this, and at first I thought it was defective because I couldn't unscrew the brushed aluminum cap from the steel filter, but I learned (after 2-3 minutes of twisting) that it doesn't unscrew, you simply grab the rubber seal, and pop the metal top off revealing the compartment where the coffee goes.I literally just opened this, and after learning how to open it, filled the bottle around half way with some filtered water, put in the filter, filled it with 4 healthy scoops of my favorite Hazelnut ground coffee (pour over course, haven't tried espresso fine grind yet, but will later), filled up to the "Max" line by pouring over the coffee while in the filter, then put the cap on and put it in the fridge. Most guides say to wait at least 12-18 hours before consuming, but I'm going to try to see if I can wait 24 hours, as the longer you let it steep, the stronger and more flavorful it is.So far I'm happy with with purchase, and I believe that it is good quality.I just hope I don't end up dropping it.Also, I think it said it was dishwasher safe, so I'll be using that to clean it afterwards, and will update this review if there are any adverse changes afterwards.//UpdateAfter having this for a couple days now, and using it consistently I have discovered the following:1. It is dishwasher safe, but I would recommend not putting anything too close to it so that it doesn't end up banging into this while the washer jets do their thing2. I don't know where I read that you should put water in the glass first, then put the steel filter, then coffee, then water over coffee to the "Max Fill" line, but I've gotten much better results simple putting the filter in while the glass is empty, putting in my desired strength amount of coffee (around 4-6 scoops, filling the filter about 75-80%), then pouring the filtered water over the coffee until the glass is filled, stir with a butter knife for at least a minute, then put the cap on and put it in the fridge.Periodically I will repeat the last two steps whenever I find myself in the fridge waiting for the coffee to steep. Doing this has made the coffee much stronger, and more flavorful IMO.3. The all glass handle worries me, as I keep thinking the weight of the filled glass container will cause the handle to snap, sending the delicious coffee to the ground, but it hasn't happened yet. Will update again if any changes, but so far I'm 100% satisfied! This thing is awesome!
