I build a lot of Partscasters, mostly bass guitars, so I go thru a lot of strings. I'm always on the lookout for high quality, less expensive bass strings to outfit my creations. I was pleased to happen upon these strings. They are bright sounding, smooth on the fingers, and seem to stay in tune longer than most others.

Update- Nov 2024 I tried the flat wounds and they are also good. I see others here reporting that strings have broken while tuning, dead strings etc. I have had sets of Alice strings on for months and months, years even. I have NEVER had a bad string on ANY of their strings of any type. Be sure to check for the authenticator on the package and also on the ball-end if it has that feature. The bass strings do. You may have received a fraudulent package. These are quality strings. "Cheap" is not a good description!_______I have been playing for quite awhile and I've many different string brands. I haven't tried nearly all of them, there are too many. I've tried and used Dunlop, Ernie Ball, D'addario, Rotosound etc. These are all great string brands. You cannot go wrong with any of these. My favorite is Ernie Ball. I would compare these most closely to Ernie Ball but not exactly. I rank these Alice roundwound strings as a 5-stars on price/value and I would rank Ernie Ball the same 5-stars for price/value. The others would be 4-stars for price/value. I practice often, not every day. I have multiple basses so I don't always play the same one. Given that I cannot say how they would hold up if you played these an hour a day consistently. I've had 3 or 4 sets of these and they have been great. Especially the 5-string set. The price alone makes it worth a try. These are my first choice now. The quality is consistent, they remain fresh in the package for many months.I'm even trying Alice acoustic guitar strings and find that they are great too. I've bought a package of the flatwound bass strings also and I hope they will be as good.

A few years back I tried out a few brands of bass strings and settled on these as my favorite. That they happened to be inexpensive (about $7 a pack on eBay at the time) was a great bonus. I did get a dead string on occasion, but I stuck with them because they were cheap, really punchy and bright, and lasted a pretty long time. I was happy with them and stuck with them. They were a lot like Ernie Balls but I actually preferred the Alice and they seemed to last a bit longer.Back then they came with red string wrapping at the ends. At some point they switched to plain strings (no wrapping) and you had to cut them. Then the most recent packs I've got are plain strings and were pre-cut to length. Those last two weren't purchased all that far apart... I'm not sure how long it was, but based on the comments it looks like which you get is random unless it was a very recent change.Anyway my recent packs have had a lot of problems with dead strings. They just haven't had the same punch that they used to. Some people have commented that if you have the ones that need to be cut, be sure to bend them first and then cut them. But the most recent set (the pre-cut ones) were just as dead as the previous set (not pre-cut) that I was sure I'd made that mistake with.So I've got a set on my bass right now that's only like a week old. When I picked up another bass that I strung up a while ago with Ernie Balls and the difference was night and day. The Ernie Balls were much punchier and brighter even though they'd been on there for a while. It seems that these come from some mysterious chinese group, so what may be happening here as is sometimes the case with lesser-known chinese brands is that these aren't always the same strings. It could be a grab-bag of strings from different places, or just whatever they can get cheaply at the time and later they switch to something else. I don't necessarily hate this practice (you can save a lot of money by not paying for big brands) but the problem is I just don't feel sure about what I'm getting anymore. In Alice's defense, counterfeit products are a big problem these days, and maybe what I got didn't come from them at all. All I know is the ones I've got from Amazon have all kind of sucked. So I'll probably switch again soon. Too bad. I liked my old robot cat strings.

Had not heard of the alice brand of strings. The low price is what caught my attention, and I will say that they so far are an excellent choice for quality and value.Strings sound bright and had enough length to not worry about reaching tuning key or accidently cutting a bit short when putting them on.They do not have the silk covering that some strings do at the ball end and the tuning key end, not a problem for me at all I just thought I would mention.I would definitely buy again and would say over all if you use Ernie Ball's that the Alice's are right at that same level.
