I've had it for a month and I love it. Seeing live data and codes is awesome. Only problem is it will not work with my father in laws 2007 GMC.

In order to replace the Subaru CVT transmission fluid, I needed to monitor the transmission temperature. Unfortunately my several hundred $ Autel MD808 that I purchased in 2017 that was supposed to freely update, was useless despite attempts to update and wouldn't read the data. So after finding the Ancel Echo OBD2 Scanner, I was able to read the temp and service the trany without having to fork out several more hundred dollars and hundreds of dollars for the yearly update fees on those scanners. The beauty of this bluetooth device is that by visualizing the streaming data on my phone wirelessly I can be under the car and perform the service without the need to go back and forth in the car to read the scanner screen. I hope the yearly updates are provided free a promised.

Scanner says it offers bi-directional communication, but not on Stellantis/FCA vehicles! Since FCA vehicles (like Jeeps) have the secure gateway module, I registered this with AutoAuth and tried to use it, but it apparently doesn't support bi-directional communication with Stellantis vehicles at all. Also does not work with JSCAN at all.

This is a product every car owner should have. The more I use it the better I get. It's easy to use. Honestly, it's definitely more difficult understanding what everything means. I usually just look up everything to familiarize myself with a lot of new knowledge but well worth it. Good thing I got to get to know just my car, not everybody else's. Just finding the recalls for my vehicle was worth it. I already scheduled an appointment with the dealership to get the recalls fixed. Strongly recommend this product.

The app is very well put together and the scanner fits very snug on the OBD port. The data speed is great in the diagnosis screen, but a bit laggy on the 'dashboard'. Still good for monitoring coolant and other slow moving information, but definitely won't replace your speed or tachometer. I suspect that's just the echo app. Overall I'm very satisfied with it and would buy it again. Especially considering there is no subscription needed like some others (looking at you Topdon)

I’m a professional mechanic who works on a fleet of Ford transits and Ram Promasters. This scanner is faster than the fancy snap on scanner the shop as. I can see all the data I could ever need. Highly recommend

This scanner is a very good product. It arrives packaged in a nice presentation box and inside of a plastic storage case. I plan to carry mine in my briefcase for whenever I might need it. The software installs quickly and is ready to use when you are finished with the installation. The scanner connects to a smart phone using Bluetooth and reads the codes for your cars Dianostic in an easy-to-understand format. A great tool for the money.

Works for my three toyotas(08 RAV, 15 sienna, 15 TC). Will not communicate with my 07 chevy colorado. Good information in the app, support is semi-helpful. Would be nice if it had more documentation. It took a lot of poking a guessing to find the transmission oil temperature. One other frustration, There is an option to change between imperial and metric measurements but even when set to standard the streaming data is metric. Overall it's not a bad tool if you can catch it on sale just be cautious if you're buying this for an older GM product. Hopefully Ancel will continue to support the product with updates to improve the app.

For such a small unit it sure does a lot! Just a small sampling of what it reports to you in screenshots uploaded, it can do so much more...I tapped enhanced diagnostics - it asked if I wanted to download the OEM addon I said yes and it did. This was AFTER connecting my phone app to it via bluetooth, which happened effortlessly with no need for me to do anything other than allow it. The unit has a bright light stripe down the center when active it is green, when connected via bluetooth / app it is blue, so you can tell at a glance whats happening. It did require some force to detach it from the OBD port after I was done. When you close the app it immediately disconnects the bluetooth.I went through many options within the app, so much to check over I couldn't check it all in one sitting unfortunately. Screenshots showing were sitting at idle before downloading the enhanced diagnostics for my vehicle. My vehicle has been throwing a 'check engine' warning off and on for a few years but everything seems fine, although once in a while something pops up that seems related to wiring...like my console dash disappearing on cold, wet mornings. My rear backup sensor is shot too; that goes to heck within a few months on every Escape I've had (this is 3rd) due to the gravel beating the crap out of it I expect.Just my luck the one code Echo scanned and read is 'not in the database' so I be doing some googling to get to the bottom of that one yet. Within it's fault code library you can punch in a code and it will give you info back on it. I used the code mine gave in it and it presented me with 2 Model options to choose from (Ford brand but not the Escape) I chose one and it said the code was related to 'purge vapor line restricted/blocked' and 'reason' details included 'system purge valve harness is open or shorted'. It goes on to give you repair suggestions - how cool is that!!! I checked out the other model it showed too and it was identical issue & info. The great thing about this is that you are not forced to create an account and 'login' to use it, but it will save your stuff if you do.In the app I can set an alarm to alert me if the speed I set it at is exceeded, or if the coolant temp exceeds a set temp. I would assume this requires the unit be left plugged in to the vehicle. I'm wary of that yet, don't know enough about these things to be confident in it but I'm a techie junkie so I assure you I am going to be learning and coming back to add to this review as I do. I can add more than one vehicle, so I'm off to do that now and see what it reads from that one.I most definitely recommend this item for vehicle diagnostics, it is quite a bargain right now with a good price and a 30% off coupon you can apply.

I picked up this ANCEL Echo scanner after my old car popped a check engine light which I cleared, and conveniently it arrived just before my car again threw a check engine light for the same issue with an EVAP system error code, so I was actually able to do a real-world test. It's effectively plug-and-play, but requires an Android or iOS app to work; this is just a bluetooth-enabled interface. It popped easily into the OBD2 port on my car, synced up immediately, and paired with the app without issue. It has a green status indicator for power/connection, and solid or blinking blue to show data transfer, and that basically sums up the physical device. Now, to the app. First off, Ancel has a few apps in the Play/iOS stores, and they tend to be specific to their devices. Their previous apps have middling reviews, with many people commenting they required excessive permissions to the phone system. The Echo has a new or at least re-purposed app (Ancel Echo-specific) with no app reviews at the time of this review. Installation size is under 100 MB. It does state is shares data with third parties. That said, the only system permissions it requested were precise location and Bluetooth. I am not an android developer so can't comment on specifics, but the precise location struck me as a bit odd and it is also shared with third parties. However, there are no file, contacts, or other phone data permissions required so the information transmitted is limited. Still, it's a permission I am turning off when not using the app.App layout and functions for basic use are mostly intuitive. I'm not a "car guy" so many of the features are well beyond both my knowledge and interest. It does allow you to locally register (on your phone) your vehicle information for future reference, and in my case it activated an enhanced diagnostics featureset that was enabled for my vehicle. Quick diagnosis had no trouble displaying my error code. Unlike other apps however, the EVAP P0441 error code this displayed omitted mention of the most common cause: a loose gas cap. So I don't know that I would completely trust the details the app provides, you are probably best to search them online yourself. The app has an "AI" feature that supposedly gives repair details, but trusting AI language learning models (like ChatGPT) for accurate and detailed technical advice is generally a very bad idea without verification.Where I ran into a bit of trouble was clearing the code. Ordinarily, with other scanners and their apps, all you do is hit clear code and away it goes. This device/app, however, kept throwing an error and wanting me to retry. After exiting the app and re-scanning, it gave me an instrument cluster error instead which I was then able to clear. I couldn't replicate the original evap error to try again, so unknown if this is a problem with vehicle (seems unlikely given other scanners had no trouble), device (maybe) or app (most likely culprit). The app does allow you to sign up for an account, in which case it will store data in your account and off the device. No thank you. Fortunately, account creation and log in is completely optional and I left it off.The manufacturer does state it has third party app support, and researching some of them, they seem like perhaps a better and more widely tested option. While the Ancel app isn't bad, per se, it does have some UI quirks and the permissions are questionable (but not fully alarming). If/when my vehicle throws another error, my intent is to try a couple of their free versions out to compare. It is nice that Ancel has developed a device that isn't wholly reliant on their own proprietary app, because it means the device is not likely to become suddenly obsolete in a few years time if they end app support. In general, easy to use, okay basic app, and a decent solution for your average basic car owner to avoid spending large amounts of money just to read an error code at a repair shop. At $112 CAD final price with a coupon applied at the time of my review, this is somewhere between half and equivalent cost to a code read at an auto repair shop, so it pays for itself in effectively one use.
