I used baby oil for the meduim. Works very well. Tests vac lines like nothing.

It's a good unit, comes with enough attachments to do basically anything you'd need to do.I used it to find out I had a cracked exhaust manifold (sad I found it, but this tool made it easy to find).My only complaint is that after about 5-7 minutes of running the burner/fan combo (needed it to run that long to fill exhaust pipe), the unit overheated and needed to cool down for about 5 minutes before it would run again. It was about 75F outside air temp and not in sunlight.Granted, 5 minutes is all you need to do any high volume tests on most cars, but I could see the quick overheating being a pain to deal with later down the line.If you're handy, and brave enough to void a warranty, putting a 12v computer fan on the unit (and drilling holes in the case to pull air through the unit), might be a half decent fix, can wire it in right with the battery connection too. But that's a redneck fix and may not work.Conclusion; good unit for the price, but is definitely light duty and should not be expected to do anything more than that.

This little machine works amazing! Was able to smoke an intake and find that an injector seal was causing the misfire. Without this it was hard to determine if it was an injector seal or an intake gasket.

With the any vehicle that has OBD 2 (1996 and newer) this is a “Must Have” tool! This unit is self contained and does not require an external air compressor which makes it ideal for the average person to do a leak test on their system. I had a vacuum leak on my 03 BMW and was getting P0171 and P0174 codes meaning there was a leak between the MAF and the Bank 1 and 2 O2 sensors. There are a lot of places that the leak could be and you can spend a lot of time and money replacing parts. This found the leak at the DISA Valve due to a broken piece of plastic in the assembly. Had I not found this pieces could have gone thru the intake and destroyed the engine. So yes this is well worth it.

Love how easy this tool makes it to find an otherwise imposible to find leak. My only complaint is the quality of the connectors used on the internal connections. Unit did not work out of the box but was easily repaired by removing outer case and giving the wire connectors a little squeeze where the connect to switch. Just s.thing to look out for if u happen to find yourself in the same situation. For me it was less hassle to repair the unit than to go thru steps of returning product.plus i really wanted to try it out the same day i got it. It was worth the 10 min it took to fix it.each to there own tho

I do like the fact that it contains it's own compressor. Lacks instructions regarding the product itself such as how much oil to add or how much not to add. Believe the other review, it spits a LOT of oil. The company doesn't even list the product on their website.EDIT: I have updated my original review. What I have found is that as long as you don't fill the the oil past the fill window you're ok and it will not spit a bunch of oil. The manual does not indicate any minimum or maximum fill levels.

Like any guy, I pulled it out of the package, filled it, and went right to town. It sputtered, smoked a little, sputtered more oil, and basically wouldn't work.After a half hour of frustration, I finally read the instructions - it's mouse print so grab a magnifying glass - I could see the MIDDLE of the sight glass is MAX FILL. It took a few minutes of running after I poured out the excess (I went just below the sight glass) before it recovered from being overfilled and would make smoke. Once it got going then output was great.The only deficiency I found is the inflatable bulb won't stay aired up so I just stuffed a towel into the intake tube (you don't want baby oil fouling your mass airflow sensor!) and sent smoke through the PCV port.It would be great if there were markings on the back indicating the bottom/middle of the sight glass is max fill but I give it a top rating.

I had a problem with my Chevy Cruze Eco where the boost would fluctuate in a certain RPM range and temperatures. My tuner and I must of put 12 different tunes on it and I tried a new coil pack, plugs, etc.I wanted to see if I had a boost leak and decided to go with this product.It worked and found the leak around the wastegate valve… smoke was just rolling out in about 5 minutes from the back of the intake manifold to the turbo.The one thing minor thing that I had a problem with is the air compressor side is a bit on the small side and it can’t pressurize a large amount of piping that comes with a turbo, intake, intercooler, etc… So if that is your intention you’ll need to break the system into smaller pieces.I was able to test my fix by using the the air compressor to pressurize the wastegate valve to 13psi and it held it for the entire 3 minutes I had it on.Definitely a helpful tool to have!
