I've purchased these before. They work great for securing your ammo or anything else you choose to store in military-style ammo cans. You need to have a 5/16th drill bit to make the hole inside the circle in the latch (and suggest a smaller bit to make the initial drill). Just slip the bolt in from the outside, attach the washers and bolt and it's ready.

Just make sure you get the correct shank size. Also, the ammo box hole may need to be enlarged. A step drill bit worked well for this.

What I like about it is that it works! The bad news is that if you don't Center the piece right in the middle. You would have to drill and widen the hole for the piece to close, the latch and you put the lock in place. Use a small drill bit first.

Installed the hardware kits on new ammo cans and used a heavy chain with padlocks keyed-alike to secure them together. Provides good secure ammunition storage that is "child-proof" and resistant to theft. Ever try to move 10 fully loaded ammo cans that are chained together?? Granted, a determined thief with a heavy-duty bolt cutter could remove them individually but that takes time and effort.Make sure you have a step drill to enlarge the hole of the closure for the 50cal cans. Recommended highly.

This worked like a charm! Didn't want to spend the money on a safe or $100 lock box for a friend of mine so installed this in and ammo box / can and popped a lock on it and I can lay my head down at night without any worries..

I needed better lock mechanism for my 30 and 50 cal cans. Got two. They fit the 30 cal can better because the 50 cal can have a larger hole in the locking clasp, so I used a larger washer. Fits just as good as the 30 cal can.
