archery arm guard

Why should you use an archery arm guard/bracer?

The archery arm guard is the most important pieces of gear for archer beginner or hunter. A full length arm guard is a good idea for all beginner archers. You will wear it on your bow arm and it should cover the area from biceps to wrist. They are designed to keep sleeves out of the way, protect your skin, and provide a flat surface for the string if it grazes your arm during the shot. Bracers protect the inside of the archer's forearm against injury by the string of the bow or the fletching of the arrow. They also prevent loose clothing from catching the bow string.

First a warning to other newbie archers: if your bow comes before your arm guard just wait for the arm guard before you start shooting. I shot 40 arrows or so just having a blast before I looked at my arm and realized I should wait. Next regarding wearing it: all you need to do is look up how to use a "locking ladder buckle". It's pretty low tech, but works like a charm. The straps are stretchy, but firm enough to stay in place when you set them and move adound.I was specifically looking for a leather one with breathable air slots and this perfect. Of course being real leather it will have a bit of a smell, but it's very sturdy and feels like there's two wires running throughout it to help keep it's shape and structure. Two for the price of one is also incredible value. Possibly the best arm guards on Amazon.
Works just fine so far

This fastens and functions well. When my arm is straight while shooting all is good, though when not shooting it's a little long and pushes against the inside of my elbow just a bit. I'm a 6 foot male, just for reference.

I used this guard for what I'll give a generous ten times; it's incredibly stiff, and the arm bands really tend to rub your arm raw, especially if you start sweating. The bands kind of just flop limply all over the place no matter how I tried to secure them, but it took a few decent hits from the string of a learner and protected my arm well. However, two months after purchase it took a hit today and the band completely snapped, separating from the leather and actually stinging more than I think a bowstring ever has for me.

I use these to protect my forearms at work from the edges of heavy loads i'm lifting. So I use them all day and the straps dig in after awhile and get uncomfortable. Wouldn't be a problem with long sleeves but it's way too hot for that on the factory floor. So it comes down to whether I want raw forearms or strap irritation. I prefer using these and saving my forearms.

I recently bought a bow and thought that I should get an arm guard to go along with it for safety, seeing as I had never shot a bow in my life😁. I searched all over amazon, looking for the best one. There were all sorts of arm guards (cuz you know, Jeff’s got it all), however, a lot of them were very expensive. I was very lucky to find this one for its good price and quality. The guard arrived the next day and IT WAS PERFECT! It is very high quality leather and amazing for the price. I would highly recommend FOR SURE!!!!

I ordered 3 of these armguards, one in each color. My two kids (ages 8 and 6) and I all shoot recurves. I am a short gal 5'2", so I figured one of these would work for me as well.First, this looks to be well made. Comfy wide straps with easy to use, adjustable buckles. The material of the main body is athletic mesh, the type you find on high-end running shoes. On the outside of the armguard (the side that will take the abuse from occasional string slaps), there is an extra layer of tougher black mesh. This is why the colors look darker in the "stock" photos. The actual colors of these armguards are blaze orange, lime green, and bright fuschia. The mesh looks and feels like it will breathe well in hot weather, which beats most of the leather/plastic armguards I have seen. It's the same mesh as my running shoes, and they breathe great. The only reason I did not give this item 5 stars is the size. When this says "Youth" armguard, they mean "teenage", not "child" size. I am adding a couple photos, by which the rulers I laid out can show that the size is better suited to a teen or a small adult.I will add, I have been a "serious" competitive archer for years, and I have seen my share of armguards. If your string is hitting your armguard more than 1-2 times a day (even for a kid!) , find a coach to help you work on your form- the armguard isn't the problem.
