If you are going to change the rear shoe pads on your car this is a MUST to have. Avoid the struggle and accidents while removing the springs retainers. This tool is a very reliable option.

After spending a couple hours trying to hang a 12 inch x 3-3/8 inch rear brake shoe while reaching behind the dust cover plate to control the pin orientation and simultaneously trying to keep the emergency brake lever from falling out of its holder and compressing the clip retainer spring on my C3500 dually, I abandoned the maintenance project for the weekend and ordered this tool. The following weekend I used this tool and had the brake shoes hung in 5-minutes. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Prompt shipping, reasonable price. Well made tool that is more user friendly than the traditional barrel, screw driver handled spring compressor. Easier to see and align the pin with the slot in the hat.

While doing the brakes on a 1956 Willys CJ5 I discovered that my hands are no longer strong enough to get the tops on the brake hold down spring and pin. Got frustrated, ordered this and had it back on the road pretty quickly. The design is pretty original and makes the job easier than using the one on the end of my old brake spring pliers. Completely happy with this.

It took me a month to fix TJ drum brakes because of the retaining spring that locks in place with the flat tipped nail. Finally the Ares needle nose have 2 sets of grooves for the spring and it holds firmly. Amazing how easy the job was with the right tool. If its still too hard to compress and line up go get a spring kit from a different supplier.

They are good pliers. But they need to be longer. It is not any easier to use these than a regular spring tools. I hoped it would help alot but not really but the offset is nice

Better at removing springs than installing them. The flutes do not have adequate grip against the retaining washer to turn them during install. Removing is easy as you can just blindly turn the tool until the parts align and the retainer comes off. A small pair of channel lock pliers does the installation more effectively. The cutout looks effective at allowing you to see the pin but in reality you can't see anything. I wouldn't buy this again.
