I use these every day on the job, and have broken zero taps since (compared to unsupported tapping). I did have to take both apart, clean, debur, lube and reassemble; both are smoother now. I reversed the contact rod of the bigger one to work with taps that have a conical end rather than a divot end. Budget tools that get the job done. Quality v cost v functionality is optimum.

Works well in a mill to keep taps running true. Springs seem to have enough pressure on them to keep them engaged while using.

Only used them a handful of times. That being said they work great. But you must take them totally apart and clean the bore and springs thoroughly ( I tried to just oil them with out disassembling them when I first got them, and they were full of rust). So break them down and with a round wire brush on your drill scrub the crap out of them til no more rush shows up on the oil your putting in them. Then oil the out side good and enjoy.

I use these to start taps after drilling holes with a mag-drill. Starts taps nice and straight in the drilled hole. great quality for a low price.

Got em rusty and the larger ones action feels like gravel. But they are straight and function and cheap. Just take them apart clean and oil them. They will do fine for a starter set. Its like something youd get from China.... because they are.

This is not a high tolerance tool, but works great. I have used the smaller of the two guides a lot on the holes I drilled (~100 holes, 1/4-20, 3/8, and 1/2 dia.) and then hand tapped on my mill. Never had a problem with it, other than my thumbs getting sore from turning the tap into medium hard steel. Some of these 1/2-20 holes were 1-1/4 deep blind taps and without this tool I am sure I would have broken at least one tap!
