Very DISPLEASED that a NEW Distributor fails to properly Align during installation. See picture of OEM gear left compared with New - look at relationship to roll pin.Once I managed to get Rotor aligned (near #6 marking inside distributor), immediately upon starting, the Engine Light (CEL) came on and code P1345 set. I tried multiple minor changes to "Advance or Retard gear", but same code will reoccur. Resulted in putting old Distributor back in. I've recently passed my return date (14th), which means I have a New but unusable distributor. Also, the quality of Cap & Rotor are Cheaply made. Rotor screws were loose (no loctite), which could cause internal failure if not identified. Aluminum housing is the best characteristic of the item. Shaft size is smaller so unable to swap internal mechanical parts.Lesson learned, should have better researched this item.

This is a great replacement for the plastic distributor that comes factory. However, and don’t get me wrong. This is nothing bad about this distributor. I’m very pleased with it so far but I did have to slot The retainer so that I could slightly turn the distributor to get it to line up with number one. There are several forms online about this issue with aftermarket distributors, and I have ran into it personally in the past I know the ones that O’Reillys and AutoZone sale. You have to do this exact same thing and they’re made of plastic. Before I purchased this one, I went to the Chevrolet dealership to purchase one so that I didn’t have to mess with it the one they tried to sell me was a doorman brand, which is the exact same one. O’Reillys sells only three times the cost.

Ok, just mark the position of the rotor pointing on your old distributor on to the new one and drop it in. That’s all. If you try to time it like you do from the factory at tdc it won’t work. Because the gear teeth are a tooth off from the pin compared to your old oem one. Trust me I spent hours on this. So just mark the position on the old and put the new in same way. You may have to walk it because the oil pump shaft may turn some as you pull the old one out.
