My 17 year old gelding got what is known as jumper's knee. Swelling in the knee. In his case, he was not at all lame on it and x-rayed clean. It was fluid accumulation in a tendon sheath on and below his knee. The vet recommended this knee boot and I used it in conjunction with Finish Line Kool Out Poultice (also from Amazon) for a few weeks.I put it on his knee at around 8pm and the trainer took it off again in the morning around 10am. My gelding is a very sporty type so he is sturdy but not thickly built. I found that I could put the poultice on a washcloth and then put the washcloth on his knee and then put the knee boot over that. This kept the boot up better overnight than just the knee boot on its own and also kept the knee boot cleaner (so I could just wash the old washcloth and use a fresh one each day).I am VERY impressed with this knee boot. It is sturdy, comfortable for the horse and provided a slight compression that, combined with the poultice, allowed the fluid to leave the tendon sheath. After a couple weeks of overnight application, his affected knee is back to normal and, a week later, is holding. I am very impressed with the results I got and with the quality of the product.

Wonderful article, and my horse can now walk up and down the hills again. I used it for a torn/damaged ligament.

Stretched out more than I thought and no longer fit. It's a shame because they worked well and fit perfectly when they first arrived. Ordered medium for a top of the line large pony with good bone and arthritic knees. No longer fit. Should have ordered small I guess?

Recently, I purchased the new Back On Track Padded Hock Pads and Knee Pads. Together it was an expensive investment but, worth it to help my mare's arthritis. Neither the knee pads nor the padded hock pads stay up. They slide down around the horses hooves. I went back to the Back On Track website and found the following statement, "When using these boots it helps to use standing wraps to prevent them from sliding down."This required an additional purchase of standing wraps. I now have a $200.00 investment for knee pads, hock pads and standing wraps.Another option would be to purchase Royal Quick Wraps which is Back On Tracks version of Standing Pad for $93, escalating the cost even more.I called the company and expressed my displeasure at a product that does not stay up without purchase an additional product. I felt if it was a known issue by Back on Track that the knee and padded hock pads won't stay up, standing wraps should be included with the product by Back On Track. When the pads slip they become a tripping hazard for the horse. In addition, if the horse is stalled it becomes nervous as it does not like the pads around the hooves, increasing the risk of injury. In addition, it takes more time than just slipping on a couple of pads. Applying the standing wraps at night and taking them off in the morning adds much more time.I called Back On Track's customer support. The customer support representative listened and was polite but, and I got the typical I understand speech but, they didn't offer to do anything. It was a "sorry, that's just the way it is" attitude.

My gelding had an old knee injury, fell and sealed his growth plate at 8 months old. He's now almost 9 years old so he's dealt with it his entire life, but his knee bends inwards. Totally sound, just looks funny. I did research on such an injury and didn't find anything so it's basically trial and error of finding ways to keep him protected to prevent any complications later in life. He does seem to favor it a little when he's turning sharp to the right so I figured a little extra support wouldn't hurt. I use polo wraps with these and didn't have any issues with them sliding. They seem really supportive and he had no problems getting used to them. I will use these on him forever!
