Overall this feels nice and heavy and sturdy. Definitely feels more substantial that most of the basic caulking guns sold in the box stores. Only thing was that I found that it seemed a bit "tight" cranking it, but that could be either because it was new or because my hands are old! However, I am hoping that means that there will be little or no unintended leakage. Nothing more frustrating than pausing to caulk, pulling the pin and caulk still leaking out.Good quality is not a surprise here. I have purchased many Bates paint brushes and I have always found their quality to be greater than what you would expect for a value price.

Not a bad caulking gun. I decided to try if I could force through some old silicon caulking through a tube and it would not go through. I had to remove the nozzle, and then clear out the old silicon that had hardened, and only then would it work. So although the 18:1 thrust ratio is useful, it can't power through impossible situations. It did help to push out the old silicon though, so I would recommend this type of gun over an ordinary caulking gun if you don't mind the added expense. The piercer is in a weird location. It is located on the handle. At first I also had a hard time pulling back the handle. You have to push the tab at the back while at the same time not squeezing the trigger in order to make the rod loose. Wish there were some instructions. Maybe one is not necessary in person, but on the product page it would be nice.
