The hole for the u-lock insertion should be facing the back, not 90 degrees to the side. This way, the lock would sit above the rear tire and parallel to it and would not hit the rider's leg.

It isn't that strong I am guessing it will last a couple months before it breaks. The weight of the lock flexes the mount bumps and normal use will break it.
