I have used an older (quality) version of this mirror for years, but unfortunately someone dropped my bike onto cement and the mirror snapped. Thank heavens I kept the old parts, because when this new version arrived, I was shocked at how distorted the mirror was. I compared the old mirror and new mirror side by side and can't imagine the company let this happen. Is there a way to let companies know that consumers will pay more for quality? Luckily the parts were interchangeable and I was able to put the old mirror in place of the new one. They also changed the tightening screw from something that was easy to grip (and big) to a much smaller smooth difficult to grab replacement. Why? One additional note on installation is that the mirror comes with 3 rubber "tubes" installed in place that can be used for bigger handlebar tubes. Remove all of them first and try to install it. On both versions of this mirror, I ended up using just one of them to make a snug fit. Also, loosen the nut all the way and make sure the threaded "slider" is out as far as can be (making it the smallest it can be) before trying to push it into the handlebar. I also found that installing the one rubber tube about 1/2 way in by itself first, helps to get it started (and then pushing the plastic part into it until it all fits snugly and can then be hand tightened). I'm not sure about the durability of this new version's plastic, but I'll update this review if it fails.

I have been using this configuration of mirror for over 2 decades. Many people recommend the Mirycle, for a reason that eludes me. THAT mirror, is overly convex, making cars at a safe-ish distant disappear, only to appear suddenly within squashing distance. Also the bracketry often self destructs during installation. I know, because I used to install them for customers at bike shops. Mirycle s*cks. The Blackburn Multi Mirror w/handlebar end mount SHINES in every way. The oval shape gives a wider field of view without misleading distortion , just the right amount of convexity, durability, doesn't vibrate. easy mounting. I like to fit an MTB bar end above/forward of the left grip, and use the handlebar plug style mounting to insert into said bar-end. If I should crash or allow the handlebar to strike the wall in the garage while parking, the mirror merely swings up out of the way. See the pic.

I wanted to like this mirror, but it's really mediocre. Unfortunately, it's the only one I could find that is designed to fit road bike hoods. I don't understand why someone hasn't made a better hood-mount mirror available. If this mirror was all that I had, I would keep using it, but in the end I returned it and decided to find a way to mount my old Mirrycle Mirror in a similar position, and am much happier with the setup as it is now. Now, on to my review of this mirror:I have tried using a bar end mirror in the drop bar of my road bike, but it's a very inconvenient location and is often obscured in some riding positions. By contrast, the Blackburn Road Bike Mirror mounts up high and is always in easy view without taking my eyes off the road. The mount itself seems to work well, and holds the arm to the hoods fairly well, mostly maintaining comfort for your hands while in hood position. Unfortunately, Blackburn didn't put much thought into the ball and socket system that mounts the mirror to the arm itself. No amount of tightening the adjustment nut will keep the mirror from flopping around on bumpy terrain. I ride only paved roads, but even bumps and cracks in the road are enough to jostle the mirror out of position, rendering it useless.Fortunately, there is a workaround for this, as some reviewers have mentioned. You can loosen the nut until the mirror comes off the arm, and then place a small piece of old inner-tube into the socket to take up the slack. Replace the ball, tighten the nut, and now the mirror will stay where you put it.That issue aside, the main reason I stopped using it was the poor quality of the plastic mirror. There is a lot of distortion, making it difficult to get a true idea of where cars are and how close they are approaching. While I like the wide view, it's not quite tall enough to get a full look at the road while riding in some hand positions.----I ended up sending the Blackburn mirror back and jury-rigging my old bar-end mounted Mirrycle Mirror (see photo) so that I could mount it part way down the drop bar instead. The glass mirror of the Mirrycle is much clearer and gives a good wide view for me.If you wish to do the same, just wrap the original bar-end mount portion of your Mirrycle Mirror with electrical tape to cover the sharp edges and then tape it to your drop bar, right at the curve. Just make sure it's out of the way of your brake levers / shifter and hands for the positions you ride in. Once you're happy with the position, take a piece of mountain bike inner tube, slip it over the drop bar end, and then over the Mirrycle Mirror mount. This holds very securely and covers the electrical tape nicely. I found that it is -much- easier to get the inner tube over the bar and mirror mount by grabbing the inner tube near the bar-end and pulling it upwards (folding it over itself), like turning a sock inside-out. Trying to slowly work the tube up over both the bar and the mirror mount would be very difficult otherwise.I ride in aero-hoods more than drop-bar position, so I chose to put the mount on the left side of the bar to get a little more space for my hands up above, but you may find that you prefer your mirror in a different position.

Opens a whole new world behind. So easy to view.Picture behind is so clear. Best bike mirror I've used.Had a few in my time on different bikes. This ticks all the boxes. It replaces a previous in bar folding mirror. Lots more expensive, less clear view and ultimately glass came loose!Comes with three different size rubber gaskets to get correct fit in bar end.So, buy with confidence. Great value and so far I would say very well made.

This is a fairly good option for a road mirror. There are really no excellent road bicycle mirrors on the market. This mirror is relatively unobtrusive as it attaches by velcro to the brake lever. The mirror itself is of high quality and has a good reflection image. I like the reflective strip on the other side of the mirror which helps with night time visibility. The biggest disadvantage of this mirror is the flimsy nature of the arm that holds the mirror. Because this arm is not very stiff, as you ride the mirror wiggles to a great degree. This is not fatal to the operation of the mirror, but it does obscure the image in the mirror making it difficult to determine the exact location and velocity of the approaching vehicle. What those of us who use our bicycles for commuting and transportation need is a really good left brake lever with a mirror mount installed. As it is, this is probably one of the better choices for a mounted mirror and it is easily removed when transporting the bicycle to prevent breakage.

It gives you a lot more control over your safety rather than just hoping for the best. It makes riding infinitely more relaxing because you can see the intentions of most decent drivers well in advance.Once you start riding with a rear view mirror you also begin to develop additional safety and riding procedures. Fading in at the right moment as people pass. Cycling around phantom potholes when cars are at a distance to seed the driver's mind. Or dropping your right shoulder to programme the driver to move further to the right. Spotting cars and sports bikes that are driving well beyond the speed limit and pulling off the road. It makes it easier to move to the middle of the road to pass or turn right. It makes it easier to ride in groups because you don't have to constantly look over your shoulder. It makes it safer to zig-zag up steep hills. I wouldn't even dream of doing a cycling tour without a rear view mirror. In short, using a rear view mirror makes you a much better and safer cyclist and gives you relaxation and options.I've not had any stability problems with the mirror. I tightened it up a bit. But I've been bombing down hills with potholes and it stays in place well enough for me.The quality is extremely good. I've taken this mirror on about 10k worth of cycle tours. It has been through hell, but still looks and works great. Highly recommended.
