Plug taps are ideal for cutting right-hand internal threads; they are the most widely used type of tap, with three to five threads chamfered for general-purpose applications. The included drill bit is matched to the tap for the proper hole size. The bit is designed with split points to reduce bit walking for clean, accurate starts. The bit’s speed helix design promotes fast drilling. The plug tap is recommended when there is sufficient room on a blind hole and tapping to the bottom of a hole is not critical. Made from heat-treated carbon steel, it is a rust- and tarnish-resistant tool. The rolled threads are more accurate and cleaner than machined threads. They are tooled to the most exacting specifications to ensure that bolts anchor securely. Laser-etched marking ensures size identification and won't wear off. I used this drill/tap combo to install a new tang mounted peep sight on my Henry Frontier rifle. Admittedly they were going through aluminum alloy but they performed the job flawlessly. I'm happy.

I had a small project were I had to drill and tap 68 holes in 1/8 plate mild steel. I bought 3 taps think that I would need only need 2 for the job. Tried power taping and broke the frist 2 in 8ish holes. The last tap was trooper and lasted the rest of the 60 holes(going slow). I would recomend a Tap Socket Set its a game changer.

I had two holes to drill and thread in a cast steel item. I used carbide bits in increasing sizes to make the pilot hole, then switched to the #21 bit at under 1500 rpm, and moderate down force, with regular oiling of the bit until through. Switched over to the tap and went slowly, backing up every 1/4 to 1/3 turn to clear the threads. Worked great.

Bought to tap an electric box, worked great for the soft plastic. Can't say how it will work for a "real" tap job, but if you are using it for electric boxes you are good to go.

Very good quality. Both drill and tap have held their edge for multiple holes in cast iron.
