It fits! Original 2.8 gallon gas tank was cracking and turning yellow. I couldn’t see the gas level anymore either. Plus there was some recalls on them back in early 2000 due to leakage. Shortly after the recalls, Murray went bankrupt and eventually was sold to Briggs & Stratton. I dont know if mine was in the recall but after 19 years it was time to replace regardless. Comes with cap.Picture: Old vs New tank and it came in a Briggs & Stratton box.Directions: drain all gas. undo 6 very small Phillips top dash screws. Lift top dash up a couple inches. Undo 4 Phillips screws on each side trim piece by tank. Undo 4 Phillips screws holding tank in place. Maneuver old tank out. Undo fuel line from old tank. Install new tank in reverse order.

All looks good and have installed in my Murray 18.5HP Hydrostatic riding mower and hope that it will be good , do not know why they make the take in two halves though and the one I had in the clamp on the front of the tank which must be crimped on when assembling and must have worked its way off then started to leak could have been very dangerous when a person is on the riding mower , it could have caught fire or exploded , manufacturers defect , be very careful and keep a vigilant eye on your tank.
