Lo compré porque era el unico que pasaba de los 1500 C°, prometen 1800 C° y no me pasa de los 999... y la precisión un poco dudable. No se si estara defectuoso, pero des de luego una decepción.Actualizado unos meses después, dejo de funcionar.

I just unboxed the 1800 and went around testing it. My hand came back at 108ºF. My daughter across the room came back at 106ºF. The inside of my freezer came back at 41ºF (which is above freezing ... in case people don't know that) ... I went outside where it has been cloudy and 45ºF all day today. My cat's water bowl came back at 85ºF ... not likely. I am in the process of a return for this. But I am putting it out there that the accuracy is very suspect. I would have understood +/- 2º ... but this is crazy. The instructions were not super clear either. There is a mode button on the interface. I could not figure out what "mode" was to do. There is an F and C button which went back and forth between the measurement types. So then what does Mode do? I could not tell you because the instructions don't say. Pretty difficult to get excited about a product when it does not work well, and the instructions don't explain how to resolve issues very well either.I would not recommend the 1800 model.

Bought it for use with my homemade forge to get the melting temps I needed without excess wear on the crucible. Works great on finding hot spots in fire pits as well.Con: in the daytime, even shaded screen is hard to read

I have an independent geology lab (ie gold prospecting) and continually melt ore samples to determine any degree of value in precious metals. The tasks must be as expedient an accurate as possible. You can't melt quartz and feldspar without knowing how hot the samples are getting. This device will measure up to 3,000F, which is sufficient when looking for gold and silver. If you are looking for platinum groups, you will need a device that measures temperatures above 3,000F.When using it, always make sure you extrapolate "distance" from the source and add about 50 degrees for every inch or so to what you are reading. There are other devices that are more expensive but, this device, for the price, this is the best value.

Menu like on most of these instruments is not intuitive. But enough playing around finally got all the setting right. Seems to be accurate in the forging range

I bought the meter for my pizza oven. So far works great. I love the 50:1 spot ratio and the emissivity calibration. The 9 point laser makes it easy to see the spot being measured. I am very happy with the product. The only con I can remark on is the LCD is pretty dim when viewed in direct sunlight.

A lot of research went into this purchase. I had it narrowed down to this and one that looked remarkably similar. This became the easy choice. No issues with meter. Easy to use. Follow the instructions. If you are struggling for an accurate read, go back and reread the instructions.

The directions are not complete, there is no instructions telling the user that after 999 degrees Fahrenheit the display indicates only 3 digits, not four. In other words a reading of 112 is actually 1120 degrees. It took us several hours to figure that out and a useless, expensive call to China. Also, in the review questions you ask about accuracy, like everyone has a way to confirm accuracy. The user manual is poorly written. I do think the instrument could be a good buy if it is truly accurate and a fourth digit would be added to the read out.Updated Review November 25, 2019BTMeter has been working diligently to make corrections regarding the issues mentioned in my original review. Once I learned how the meter reads, I too have found it a very useful tool. It is being used to measure the internal temperature of gas forges in the range of 1000 to 2600 degrees Fahrenheit. Switching from Fahrenheit to centigrade is as easy as punching a button.Though I still have no way to report accuracy the numbers generated are useful. At this time I would revise my review to a four star and once the manual is updated and the screen readout gives a direct four digit reading, I would then rate the instrument with a five star.
