The cam and groove coupling is a simple and effective system to establish direct and perfect tightness between two elements (hose-hose, hose-fixed point). The connection is easily made by inserting the adaptor (male part) into the couple (female part). The locking is assured by the cams of the couple.

We have a 2in irrigation/fire connection and I don't actually need the volume of the 2in hose most of the time and it's a lot of weight to carry. I actually assembled a fitting similar to this with some pipe and spare camlock fittings, but it was ugly and fairly long, so when I saw that you could actually buy a dedicated adapter for a good prices, I picked one up. Both ends fit well and work with the poly, aluminum, and stainless fittings.
