I have GPS for hunting, but I'm not a total nerd. I still like to have the old school method just in case. I had mine in my pocket, had a bad fall, and broke it. Ironically, it still works just fine.

I guess it’s that old saying, you get what you pay for. Product is cheap and you have to tap the dial to make the hands move. The arrow should move freely.

I just got this, and the quality is good. I just have to learn how to use it beyond N, S, E, W!! But at least I will know which way I am headed if lost!

My 8 year old nephew loves to hike, so I bought this for him as a gift. He loves it. It's easy to attach to his pack and not too big for his hands. He's dropped it several times and it has not broken, so it's pretty sturdy. Not heavy, won't weight a kids down.

These compasses for Boy Scouts are simply fantastic! They boast beautiful colors and work flawlessly. The manufacturer has done a great job in their design and craftmanship. I am thoroughly pleased with their quality and performance. Highly recommended! More over, the compasses come with clear and easy-to-follow instructions. Making it a breeze for our scouts to learn how to use them effectively. The simplicity of the design combined with the functionality makes them suitable for both beginners and experienced scouts alike.

This kit comes attractively packaged. I removed the compass and did some quick measurements. Like any magnetic compass, make sure you don’t have any metal anywhere near this thing when you are using it. Even being in close proximity to my computers caused it to be off by over 90 degrees. It’s liquid filled, had no bubbles and the needle moved smoothly and acquired North quickly. I don’t know that it’s the most accurate compass I’ve ever used but it got me in the general direction. As I rotated the compass, it held North well, but as I moved from one area to another I feel like North was in a slightly different direction. Make sure to hold it perfectly flat. The rest of the piece is well made. The markings are clear and easy to read. The scale is in the common USGS 1:24,000. The bezel moves easily but stays secure in the position you set it in. It feels solid and durable, like it can take some abuse in the field. I got the green color but keep in mind that any part of the map under the compass that, for example, transitions from a green color to a white color, you won’t be able to see the difference. I liked the magnification area on it. It has a lanyard that attaches in a way that it will still sit perfectly level and flat on a surface with the lanyard attached.I like that they included a whistle. It’s aluminum so it won’t impact your compass reading. As a search and rescue volunteer, the two best things you can keep on you (well, next to a satellite telephone I guess) are a signal mirror and a whistle. Unfortunately, I think I got a bad whistle. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get it to make any meaningful sounds. There are apparently 4 plastic pieces inside the whistle that make it work properly. Maybe they shifted in transit. Maybe I got a dud. I fully removed all 4 pieces and resolved to mess with it later when I have some free time, which is never. As long as all the pieces are there and are correctly shaped, I should be able to bring it back to life. There is a good instruction sheet to get you started. I thought about giving this 3 stars but for $9, I feel like you get your money’s worth so I went up to 4. While it’s a great tool for young people to learn about maps and navigation, if out in the wild and my life depended on this kit, I’d probably go with an upgrade.
