I have become inspired to update my review of this complete piece of junk printer. I rarely need to print anything, but when I do I'd like it to work properly and without much fuss. This printer now gives me "out of paper" errors EVERY page I try to print! I have nearly smashed it with a hammer and thrown it out the window on several occasions, and may still end up doing that one day, once a new/different printer is within my budget. My advice to you is to avoid this one at all costs.ORIGINAL REVIEW:It's really kind of a chintzy piece of junk. It tells me there's no paper after about every 3rd sheet, even though it's well-loaded and properly situated, so I have to remove the paper tray, re-tamp the paper and slide it back in. Every 3 sheets! If I had not been in such a hurry to replace my old printer, I would have liked to have chosen something better than this one. The print quality is fine though, so there's that...

Well some of the reviews were very negative so I will see if my mind changes over time, as is possible. I had an HP all in one that was like a decade old and some pieces had broken off so it was time to upgrade. I went inexpensive and with a good brand and took a shot. My initial feedback is I like the sturdy feel, the print speed and quality are very good if you are just home printing (not fast enough for mass printing.) Set up was pretty easy, though I didn't realize it was a touch screen and kept trying to make things happen with the copier buttons. Finally clued in, so don't be a tool like me.Now, set up is pretty easy, I suggest having the disc and also hard connecting to the printer (standard printer usb, but it does NOT come with it. I used the one from my HP. Once I did that it went quickly. When I tried to do over the lan before connecting the printer it did not work. Also you have to put the ink in and remove the stoppers before you can set the printer up with the software. Once it was connected I had to figure out the paper. So you fold down the front, and then slide it out from the printer to load it (the out tray is on top of this) and once the paper is in, YOU MUST slide it back in so the printer can access it. That may sound like common sense but when you see it you will understand it is not, as older printers look like it does when out.So the touch screen and paper load were the hiccups for me, but more user error than anything. I don't see why the install discs don't have a 5 minute video link or on the disc to show how to open, load ink, load paper, connect to the internet. It would be very easy to make and reduce any headaches. So all in all these are minor issues, I am satisfied with the product so far.I will update if needed when I see how long ink lasts, how expensive it is to replace (you can use off company inks) and if the quality of print drops. Oh yes, this printer can print from any device, a camera, a phone, a tablet and the computer. That is a very nice feature and no special apps needed for me on Apple products. Just print and chose the canon that pops up.

UPDATED 2021I bought this printer in 2016 and it really is a good printer. However....after I recently installed the latest drivers, the printer started throwing out error codes constantly. It said I needed ink, so I spent $80 on new ink cartridges. I put in the new cartridges and it still kept throwing out random error codes. I had to set up the wifi every time I wanted to print. Then the final error code said the printer could not be repaired, so after hours of messing with it, I decided to buy a new one of the same model...I have new ink after all.In 2016 I paid $49.00. Now it's TEN TIMES MORE!?! Are you having a laugh? GTFO.Original review:Great printer, easy set up for cloud print if you ignore the stupid instructions. Just Google how to set it up and look for any help other than Canon. I think I found a YouTube video or explainer list that skipped a step and I was set up in 5 minutes. The off brand ink works great too, at less than half the price.

I've been using Canon printers for the last decade. I rarely have problems with them and this latest printer seems in very good company. It functions as advertised and provides good drafts, standard and fine documents. The scanning function works well although the new software apps took some time to install and learn. The install instruction procedure for software calls for the user to go to the setup site on the Canon website and download an install app on their local computer. This didn't work at all for me as the app continually got locked in a loop and wouldn't install anything. Instead I went to the Canon printer's support location and manually downloaded the pertinent apps and manually installed them myself.BTW, I'm using the printer connected by USB to an iMac running OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan). I haven't tested the wireless capability nor do I intend toThe various printer app defaults were totally different than what I've used before and required me to individually reset the preferences for my setup and use. What this means is that the default for scanning is to automatically call up a Canon program for editing. I didn't want to do this so I had to tell the scanning program not to run any programs, where to place my files, etc. No big deal, just not very intuitive. It's too early to make any definitive or qualitative assessments. Suffice to say it has a relatively small footprint, is fairly quiet and while not a speed demon does well enough on print jobs. The printer itself was inexpensive but using genuine Canon ink cartridges can really increase total operating costs. Be sure to shop around for discounted genuine Canon cartridges (they're out there).
