  • They are fine to use dry just as you would with coloring pencils. They are soft and blend and layer easily.

  • Yes - they are fine to use with pyrography and for using directly onto canvas.

  • Though some colors sit closely together in spectrum, each color is unique throughout the 72 watercolor pencil set.

  • Soft and blendable, these watercolor pencils are smooth in application.

  • As well as watercolor paper, high texture cartridge paper works very well. Other mediums such as acrylics, inks, pencils and watercolor paints can be combined also without the surface breaking down.

I've tried other relatively inexpensive colored pencil sets and ended up sending them back, but these are keepers! The colors are bright and they work very well with water. They also mix well, wet or dry. I've been laying down a basic wet color with these pencils, then going over it with my Faber Castell or Prisma Color pencils. This produces Good coverage on Strathmore cold press watercolor paper. (I like toothy paper and using the watercolor pencils first allows me to fill the paper crevices). They sharpen well. Sometimes I use these dry as a final touch to get rid of tiny white spots. I'm glad I ordered them!

Very happy with this set. Was looking for something beyond a starter set to get me back into the swing of being creative. This is a really nice set, plenty of color options and very easy to use. I’m off to a great start and this set got my creative energy going again.

I have recently gotten back into painting. I started out using Arteza watercolor pencils but they were very unsatisfying. The color never really dissolved and it anything I used them on looked like one of those paint with water pictures I did as a kid. I had been looking at these for a while and was lucky enough to catch them on sale. I just received them today. The packaging, although minimal. is well done and the pencils themselves are gorgeous!I had a small pic ready to paint and just from my first impressions, the difference is night and day. These lovely pencils lay down a nice amount of color dry. When you go back over with a brush, the color melts and blends so beautifully! I tried using the pencils after dipping them in a bit of water and the color flowed as if it were a brush. These pencils are great for beginners and beyond. They give you great control and the colors are amazing. These are my new favorite!

I have a 24 set of Derwent watercolor pencils, but was wanting to find a larger set, without spending a small fortune. When I found this listing for a 72 set by Castle Arts, that was under $40, I was really excited, but apprehensive about how good the quality would be. I read through the reviews, and decided to just give them a chance. And I am glad that I did. These are a nice affordable set, without losing out on quality. Not only did this set have a very nice selection of colors, with several light to dark shades of each color. But the leads lay down very smoothly and creamy, which is something I look for in pencils I use. The lead is not as soft as other watercolor pencil brands I’ve tried. These leads are more firm, like regular colored pencil lead. I assume that they have more binder in them than other brands do, but this isn’t a flaw for me. They can reach a deep vibrant opacity, with very little pressure needed.I tested them both wet and dry, and am very pleased with both methods. These pencils can be used in several light layers, using the wet technique, or can have a rich vibrant result if used dry. Definitely a very versatile product. So far, I love these pencils. The company was very friendly, and prompt with delivery.Very pleased with my purchase.

When you decide to buy. Get the canvas folder set. Those in the tin box are a mess to deal with. The 3 trays of pencils take up to much work space. Each of the 3 trays take up 14"x7". The plastic trays are flimsy and pencils spill with ease. The canvas set has a slip for each pencil and opens like a notebook. So much easier to access and keep work space open. The color chart is a mistake. It's to large to work with. Would of been better had it been put on 8 plastic laminate or plastic pages. Easier to search and take up less workspace. When I get time I'll go to Off depot and laminate it meself. Minor critiques of the pencil set. Overall the quality of the set is very good. Easy to create the shades of color you want and blend colors. The colors of the set are nice as well. Worth the price of admission. If space is an issue just get the canvass case model for a few more dollars. Laminate the color chart. You should get many hours of pleasure out of these pencils.

Product: I am not very good with watercolors and prefer watercolor pencils for more control. I own the Derwent Inktense pencils and enjoy them, but sometimes they are too vibrant for the look I'm going for. I have tried several different sets of budget-friendly watercolor pencils and I have to say, I am very impressed with the Castle Arts. They are as smooth and creamy as the regular Castle Art Pencils, which I also love. These watercolor pencils lay down nicely and blend beautifully. The pencils are octagon shaped so they are easy to grip and don't hurt your hands. They sharpen easily with no breakage. Though they come pre-sharpened, it is not a very fine point. I recommend sharpening before use. The first page I colored with them was in a book with Create Space paper since we know it is some of the most difficult paper to work with. The normal paper buckling occurred, but as you can see, the picture turned out great (though I am not an artist by any means.) I Only used the Castle Art Watercolor Pencils with fine liners and gel pens for accents. All the shadowing and gradient is from the pencils. You can not go wrong with these for the price. Seller: These pencils are lifetime guaranteed, I received a lovely note from the seller upon purchase asking if I had any problems. I did have one issue with my set. One of the pencils was defective and kept losing the lead when I sharpened it. I contacted the seller about the problem and requested a replacement pencil. They sent me an entire replacement set. The communication with the seller was very pleasant an professional. I was impressed with their genuine concern regarding customer satisfaction. I will definitely purchase from this seller again.
