I have two Padrone plus computers. Both gave me problems setting up. I found after setting each one up that they both began to run and accumulate mileage, time, average speed, top speed etc as if I was riding the bike, when all I was doing was holding it in my hand, After many frustrating hours I discovered that all of that would stop if I immediately placed it on the mount on the bike. Apparently this computer has to be near some metallic object to run correctly. It did the same when I placed it near my I pad , my refrigerator and my microwave. And apparently it does the same when placed near the handlebars or stem on the mount. Once it is mounted it will run correctly as you ride the bike. But you should be aware that you must quickly place it on the mount once set up or it will accumulate Odometer numbers which you cannot zero out except by removing the battery and then you have to set it up all over again. Hope this helps those of you who have encountered a similar experience.Update. As stated it will operate once on the bike and you are riding it. However as soon as you remove it from the mount this computer will once again begin to accumulate data AS IF YOU WERE ACTUALLY RIDING THE BIKE. So take heed and leave it on the bike.

This is exactly the computer that I was looking for!I doesn't want the GPS kind of computer but a regular one that only give the essentials like current speed,Timer,Distance,Average speed,Maximum speed,Odometer and lastly the Clock.I'll say that it is really accurate because I test it with my car,I trace a line on the asphalt to the centre of the front tire and roll for exactly 1.3 Km,trace another line at the end and test it with the computer attached to my bike and boom it give the exact distance! So yes I'll say that it is pretty accurate.Firstly I measured the circumference of my front tire with my weight on the bike and put it on the computer but this give me a wrong distance compare with my car and my 1.3 Km test, then put the measurement that CatEye suggest in the instruction manual according to my bike tire size and this give me the exact distance,so CatEye were spot on with the suggested measure. It is really easy to read the screen even in a sunny day, numbers are just big enough to see them clearly. The only reason why I choose this Padrone + to the regular Padrone is for the backlight that come with it.You have 2 mode, the first is a 5 sec backlight when you push the mode, and you push another time to switch to another measurement that you want. The second backlight mode is a full time mode that allow you to see constantly the screen as long as you move, once you stop moving I think for around 20-30 sec it shut off and come back as soon as you move again. Both mode are programmable from the time of the day you want it to work and the time that you want it to stop.Example I set mine to start to backlight from 8 PM to 6 AM so that only during that period of time the screen would be illuminated and not during the day.So yes I really recommend this wonderful computer to anyone and thank you CatEye for making my road bike experience better!

The product is excellent. Display is very easy to read, with large digits and excellent contrast. Works very reliably as well, without any issues. My only minor complaint, and it's so minor that I still gave 5 stars, is that the instruction manual that comes in the box is very brief with hardly any explanations about anything, just confusing pictures with arrows everywhere and no clear instructions. However, you can (and should) download the full manual for the product online on the manufacturer's website. It's much more comprehensive, much clearer (although still not perfect), and is in color. So it's 5 stars if you download the manual online and 4.5 stars if you only use the paper manual that comes in the box. Some reviewers said that the auto start function is not working. Allow me to clarify exactly how that function works: While riding the bike, the computer is in measurement mode and shows your speed and tracks the trip time etc. Then when you come to a stop, the speedometer shows zero and the computer stops the trip timer, however the computer remains in measurement mode, continuously listening for the signal. If you are in a stopped state for 10 minutes (i.e. the computer does not receive a signal for 10 minutes) the computer enters into a power-saving mode. In this mode, the clock is displayed along with a symbol indicating the computer is in power saving mode and nothing else. The computer remains in this state for 1 hour but continues to listen for the signal. If during this 1 hour period it receives a signal (i.e. the bikes starts moving), the computer will auto start and return to the measurement mode, displaying current speed and resuming the trip timer. If no signal is received during the 1 hour power-saving mode, the computer enters a deep power saving mode. In this mode it stops listening for the signal and displays the measurement unit (i.e. km/h etc) only. Since the computer is not listening for a signal in this mode, the auto start will not work (i.e. no amount of pedalling will wake the computer). To wake the computer, you need to press the mode button (i.e. press on the bottom of the computer). The computer had to be designed this way so that it will preserve the battery while the bike is not moving for long periods of time such as overnight or over the winter. If the computer was always listening for the signal, the battery would drain much faster. So yes, the auto start function does work, but only during the first 70 minutes of stopping (10 minutes in measurement mode and an additional 60 minutes in power saving mode), but not after that. I consider this to be a smart design feature rather than a design flaw.Made in Japan.

I now have 3 Padrone cycling computers. After the first one, a regular Padrone Wireless, I bought 2 Padrone Plus models. I have found them to be reliable thus far. And accurate. As accurate as I program them. For some reason, one of them was finicky on the magnet placement, but with experimentation, it works well too. Mounting them is simple and solid. Personally, I leave the excess strap material on as cutting can create a sharp edge. I just point the excess material in a direction that it does not interfere with riding (forward). If you do cut the excess material off, file it down so you don't get cut later when handling or washing your bike.In daytime riding, I can see what I need to see at a glance without my reader glasses, and without keeping my eyes strained to focus on reading the device. On other computers that I have to strain to see, and then when I look back to the road, my eyes need time to refocus on the road ahead. In the meantime, valuable time is lost. Time equals safety. In the dark hours, I was really pleased at how bright and even the lighting was. I have it set for the 5 second Part Time mode of lighting to save batteries. I found that setting works great on the flats and on smoother roads. However, when bombing down a grade in the dark on a rough road, the Full Time would be HIGHLY advised as moving your grip on the bars to press the lighting was found to be scary and unsafe. That has nothing to do with the device, it's just how you set it up. Choose the light settings carefully based on your speed and the road conditions. At first I did not read the directions because I have the male direction reading syndrome. I easily mounted the devices and operated them. However, once I read the directions, I found that I was missing out on a whole host functions and settings. So read the directions and keep them. We live in magical times don't we?

Just received it, just put it to use. A quality item. Large, easy to read display. Simple and easy instructions. Installation was a snap. JUST READ THE DIRECTIONS! I have read where some say the device is very hard to get off the handlebar bracket. Not so. JUST READ THE DIRECTIONS!. A gentle push from the rear of the unit and gentle upward force on the front. Switching between modes is a snap. A slight press of the 3 dots will change modes. No need to mash it down! Measurement is excellent. It kept pace with my GPS Garmin watch. As I said, a first and immediate impression, but I really like this unit. It also is backlit for a reasonable price. Battery life? I gave it max stars, but that was generous. battery life remains to be seen.

I have always thought the Cat-Eye bike computers were among the best, and have used them for around 25 years. This model is no exception. The display is very large and easy to read. The backlight is great--nice and bright. You can choose to have the backlight on continuously, or just for a few seconds at a time, which really extends battery life. This computer is also the easiest one I've every used. It does everything I need, and you simply change functions by pressing down on the lower front of the unit. Not complicated at all. The wireless transmission works for us without fail. It was even very easy to set-up the wheel size, compared to another brand I tried and returned (so I could get this one). I can't think of a way they could improve on this one.
