I bought the 34 inch ActionFlex Swords for my 8 and 10 year old boys because they were always making swords and fighting each other with them, as boys this age do. I thought these would be much safer and fun and I was right. They are high quality swords that are made of durable foam, covered by a nylon cloth-like material. You can wail away at each other with these and it doesn't really hurt much. Okay, if you get hit in the face, it can hurt, but everywhere else it is absolutely fine. It is truly fun to battle each other with these - adults and kids alike. They are also helpful for practicing martial arts defensive blocks when the attacker holds a sword in each hand and uses them to strike the defender who is just using their hands. It is better than using pool noodles. The only thing I wish was better about the sword is that the guard is foam and can be moved up and down along the handle. I wish it were fixed in place and a bit more durable. I think that is a design flaw. But still worth the purchase for hours of fun and good exercise.
