Great self closing spring. We bought this back in 2020 and it finally broke (2024). We use this particular gate a minimum of 20 times a day. Definitely replacing it with same.

I need a powerful one that will hold the gate shut without a latch. This one doesn't do the job.

hard to screw up installation. used it on a 4x6 gate frome home depot and it practically slams shut. im using 2 on one gate so it fairly strong. havent tried using just one to see how good it is. galvanizing looks pretty good too and appears like it should last corrosion wise

This unit looked like it would work great but then after 5 months the spring broke. After looking at the spring you can see that the quality of the spring was not good.

We installed this for our above ground pool. It worked for the inspection with building and zoning. Then... not so much. It no longer auto shuts the gate closed. I'm a fairly handy woman, I didn't really struggle to install it, but the instructions are awful. Make sure you have a wrench (a deep socket wrench would have been helpful) to help. I had to bang it onto the gate with my rubber mallet. If I knew what I knew now, I would have just tried to rig it with a bungee cord. Probably would work more consistently and a lot cheaper.

Long story short, these have no oompf. To get them to work at all I had to push the gate past its closing point then install the hinge so that it would have even a little push to finish closing the gate. It does have significant resistance the farther you open the gate, but if you hold the gate open just a foot or so and then release it, it won't close. I wish these had an adjustment that would allow you to adjust the tension after the hinge is installed.
