I bought one in May 2014, and it’s still going very strong. It hasn’t cracked or chipped, and has survived being left too close to a gas burner. I have neglected oiling it, and I’ve let it soak overnight sometimes, even though you’re not supposed to do that with wood. Like another reviewer does, I also bang the edge of the spatula on the pan sometimes to dislodge stuck on bits while I’m cooking. But it’s still wonderful with a smooth surface. I bought another one 8 months later to have a backup, and that one looks even better. Today I’m back to buy one for my college-bound son who’s about to move out. So I thought I’d leave a review also, which I rarely do. If the quality has decreased, I’ll post again, but I expect it to be awesome!

Do an internet search on "black plastic used in spatulas" and you will throw them all into the garbage. I got this spatula to replace those toxic flippers. It's beautiful, and works well with dryer foods. The wet foods can stick on the spatulas (a slotted one might work better on them).

Bought one a few years ago and LOVED it. Great, sturdy, large wooden spatula with a nice flat bottom edge (the edge that pushes the food around in the pan). Pretty too! Ordered another one because I loved it so much (always my first choice when selecting a wooden spatula). This one was small and the bottom edge was angled. Bring back the original design and I'l get another one.

Tired of my bamboo turners and spoons and their splintering, fraying edges, I decided to up my culinary game and go for the gusto with olive wood. Here's the scoop:PROS -gorgeous tool, satin smoothgreat curvature at the business end, making it ideal for moving food in a skillet or sauté pan.Angled in a way that makes it almost perfect for right-handed people to maneuver.CONS -A bit on the narrow side, but not too skinnyThe handle is kind of flat, another minor drawbackI'm left-handedSeriously, the angled edge makes it really difficult for a southpaw like me to get into the corners of my pans. Otherwise, I'd give it 4 stars. Will keep looking for a left-handed version.

This is an attractive spoon that looks good enough for display. It feels right in the hand, and is a good length. My only mild disappointment is that the spoon part itself is very shallow.

This looks very nice, is well crafted, but it's seasoned with vegetable oil, which went rancid after only a few days. I tried soaking it in hot soapy water, but that didn't do anything but make the wood rough and splintery.

In my opinion, anything made out of olive wood looks beautiful and interesting. The two spoons I purchased are lovely- one has a fancier grain pattern, however, the other spoon is still quite nice and I enjoy using it. When you order something like this over the internet, without the ability to hold and view the actual item, you are leaving it up to chance and the seller to choose what you get, pattern-wise (or grain-wise in the case of wooden objects). I am satisfied with what the seller selected and shipped to me. Thankfully one of the spoons has the fancier type olive-wood pattern that I was hoping for.The spoons are a little bit shorter than what I would consider ideal length for multi-purpose use (i.e. different sized pots). I bought these specifically to use with my enameled cast-iron braising pot, which is about 6" tall and very wide, so these do work fine for me. They would be a little too short for a very tall pot. After the first time I used and washed the spoons, I needed to oil them lightly with sunflower oil because they appeared dull and dry. I live in a very dry climate and so this was to be expected. Once they were lightly oiled, their lovely grain and color was restored.I like these very much and would purchase more of this brand in the future. I highly recommend them if the 12" length will work for you. They are a beautiful, pleasurable, and useful object - much prettier than the dime-a-dozen variety wooden spoons and not too expensive for Tuscan olive wood.

I ordered two of these for myself because I like the wooden tools that are less rounded and more square...mainly for scraping the bottom of pans for "fond". (the good yummy brown stuff) I have mostly rounded wooden spoons and my squarish one that I have used to death for years started chipping finally. So I looked one day on Amazon scouring the squarish wooden kitchen tools or "spatulas" as they are calling them. These are made in Germany. I love the orange wood and the smoothness. A beautiful piece! It is totally different than the typical wooden spoons/tools you see.It is obvious that there are German influences here. They happen to take pride in what they produce. One can certainly tell that it is not made in China! I don't know how to describe the feel of using this tool, other than to say when you use it you will see how much better it performs than you standard wooden spoons and spatulas. The ergonomics are right on. I like this tool so much I sent one to my sister, who loves to cook.I don't put it in dishwasher, and I oil it. Never the dishwasher!!!!March 20, 2014:I bought two of these in 2009 and they have held up beautifully and are even more beautiful than they were brand new. (never in the dishwasher!!) I use them everyday. Came back to get one for my daughter after visiting her home and missing this tool while preparing meals! Everyone needs a wooden tool like this with a flat bottom so they can scrape the bottom of a pan efficiently...and this tool is the ticket!
