It was rough. Some kind of top cote shine was put on, because the wood was rough to begin with the shine just brought out the terrible sanding. I went up to 3000 grit from 300 and used a tool to sand with fine sandpaper inside because it looked like someone would blow out a splinter while playing, injuring another student. The last few pics shows it’s all sanded, no varnish needed BUT!!!!! I wanted to give it a quick heat gun to change the color slightly and the thing was melting like wax! It’s so weird because the sanding was done and it acted just like wood would act, when heat was applied it looked like the wood was wax but it says it’s real wood so I don’t know what is going on with that wood. I had to go over the area again with sanding paper to make it look good again. The sound has improved since the inside isn’t rough, the holes weren’t perfectly done so I fixed the jagged edges around them and the logo was HUGE, I sanded it right off. Now it’s worth a few bucks imo, it wasn’t very well made when I got it though. Obv

My granddaughter wanted to play a musical instrument and I wanted to get her something that was not too expensive and fairly simple to learn because I am not sure if this is something that she will use for just a week or two and then never touch it again. She wanted an electric guitar but I wanted to start her on something more basic so when I saw this CLIFTON 8-Hole Soprano Descant Wooden Recorder I decided to order it for her.Upon unboxing you are presented with the recorder, storage pouch and a cleaning brush. The recorder comes in a massive box - much bigger than necessary. They could probably make the box about a quarter of the size it is and it would still fit everything.I know nothing about this instrument so I can't comment on the quality of sound or the quality of construction. The recorder is nicely finished with no unfinished areas or rough edges. The finger holes are smooth. The recorder comes apart and the joint between the two pieces has a cork gasket. The seller has a website that allows you to download a learning book and audio files for the recorder.My granddaughter has only had the recorder for a couple of weeks. She told me that she really likes it and I think that she has been using it in music class at school. So far, so good, as she appears to be still interested in the recorder.Priced at $19.99 at the time of this review.

This is a decent starter instrument and an upgrade over most plastic ones. The sound is clear and it is easy to play, however the tone it produces doesn't have the same quality as the more expensive wooden recorders.It is a two piece instrument. The fit is good, there is no wobble or looseness, the cork keeps everything tight. The recorder came with a basic pouch that will keep the instrument protected from dust, but not from any mechanical damage. A box or a padded pouch would be nicer. There is no cork grease included, however there is a cleaning rod.Finish on my instrument is poor. The head and the body of the recorder have a visibly different colour and the Clifton logo is not only huge, but also smeared and blurry. The tone holes are rough and unfinished on the inside and the laquer on the instrument is also pretty rough.This is a budget wooden instrument that works well, but doesn't punch outside of it's price range.

This recorder is really nice, I do not have a more expensive one to compare. My child chose recorder in school for his music class. He loves it! The ones they have in school are made of plastic and they sound like someone is squeezing the kids by their throat.He is overly happy with this one, the difference in sound is fantastic!He has already learned the Turkish March and Rush E (well, some version of it) and it sound so nice on this new wooden recorder!The wood is beautiful and heavier than I expected and it is nicely finished and lacquered. I am not sure what kind of wood it, there is no info in the description or on the package. It also comes with a blue storage pouch and a cleaning tool.In my limited experience, this is a beautiful recorder that is a wonderful upgrade from anything kids are provided with in school. I am very happy with it, my child is very happy too, so I can honest recommend it! Thank you!
