Very cheap construction clamps don’t hold, volt gauge stoped working and is stuck on 11.2v all the time. The carbon piles work so I’m using a volt meter for the volt gauge. Not happy and I don’t recommend it!

These carbon pile load testers are the only true way to test a deep cell battery. However it works with all batteries. I wish it was a little smaller but it does its job well. Close automotive solar has been around for a while also. They make good products

Works ok for the price. Plan on spending $20 to replace battery clamps. Then should work prety well for do it yourself mechanics.

This can test everything from motorcycle batteries up to diesel pickup batteries from what I can see. I've even tested a couple of aircraft batteries with it.I'd say this is an invaluable tool if you handle a lot of batteries. With sealed batteries, there's really no better test than a load test and this will get it done.

The dc ammeter is not functioning. Tried to do with fluke meter and have ammeter reading, the dc ammeter of tbp load tester retain to zero even adjusting and turning the knob

I like the cost / value. Don't need the carbon pile tester that is super heavy duty and four times the cost of this unit. Use this tester two to three times daily and it works great. the largest battery that I need to test is 800CCA. Most often test 550 to 650CCA.

The carbon pile and gauges work very well, however the battery clamps are cheap junk. As an ASE Master Mechanic with 50 years experience, I have owned and used Solar Battery Chargers and test equipment and am familiar with the brand. The battery clips are very sloppy and really less than Junk. If they were good clamps this would have gotten 5 stars across the board. The clips are s flimsy they fail to make a good connection, so I guess I will just have to buy some Belden clips and change them to get a good piece of equipment

This item works perfectly to test batteries. I have 7 batteries on my boat, all at various health stages. One particular battery was run down too far. I charged it, and it was able to reach 13+ volts (which is basically full charge), but it was not strong enough to start my generator. What gives? I used this load tester and tried to put a 450A load on the battery (which is 50% of the CCA rating on the battery, standard procedure), and I couldn't get to 450A. At just 100A, the battery meter went into the "replace" zone on the meter: the battery was irretrievably bad, despite the voltage reading. I tried desulfating with another device (multiple times) and then load testing again. Still failed. After that, I tested multiple new batteries, all passed the load test at loads up to 450A. This is a great tool because voltage doesn't tell the whole story about a battery.NOTE: for the folks complaining that the tester can't go up to the full 500A load: this is because you have a bad battery, not a bad tester. If your battery can't handle that much load, you won't get there with this tester no matter how much you turn the knob. Test a new battery, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Bounces around in service truck and seems to work good. Definitely maxed out at 500A. Would go slightly bigger next time for 1200 CCA batteries

Seems like a nice enough tool for what it is. I would have given 5 stars, but mine came with a faulty volt meter, so I have to use an external one during tests. It is not worth returning it for that. Definitely less expensive than the other name-brand one I was looking at for the same functionality.
