Well got this machete and it works it will chop soft vegetation and grass. It has a good handle the blade or metal part is very flexible. It is sharpened more of a chisel grind. Real easy to put an edge on it and it is sharpen from the tip to a couple of inches above the angle. The only thing the big BUT is that you will eventually bend the edge. Once you start going you will hit a rock and it will bend/roll your edge pretty bad. Even if you are careful it will happen. The way it is designed and what it is used for will put you on a situation where hitting the ground might be unavoidable. Other than that it is a good tool and clearing vegetation won’t take long. Look at it as a manual weedeater.

I was looking for a tool that I could use to clear overgrown trails. I did not want to even attempt to carry my scythe with a brush blade through wooded areas and the machetes I have do an ok job but it is difficult to get some of the over growth low enough so when I found this Cold Steel Lawn and Garden machete i decided to give it a try. I was surprised that it worked really well on a variety plants including grasses and woody vines even some saplings. The length gives you excellent reach and tip speed so you can really hack and get things really low but the 1055 steel does not hold an edge well and I find myself sharpening it every time I go through a patch of woody vines. For the price it does a pretty good job but if you have lots of cutting to do I would opt for something more substantial but for backpacking it is nearly ideal.

What this tool is for: This tool is essentially designed to clear through light vines and tall grass and other young plants in the same weight class. Think of this as a manual (and stronger) weed whacker. I have used it for cutting back weeds and tall grass along some areas that I could not mow, and for clearing a footpath in my undeveloped acreage.Pros: This worked great for what I was looking for and has the expected Cold Steel quality. The blade is sharp and the angle helps to allow an even cut close to the ground.Neutral: By design, the handle is a bit on the short side, and while you don't want something very long, I had to hunch over constantly to use this (5'10''). I'm not marking this as a con because a longer tool would have required a lot more room to swing as well. Just something to be aware of.Suggestions: The blade portion of this tool is not very long, so you're only cutting a small portion per sweep. While it worked great for my desired use, I could see this quickly becoming a pain if trying to clear a larger area. I think ideally I would like to see CS provide a version of this with a blade about twice as long. What this tool is NOT for: This is not for designed for clearing young trees, bushes, and thicker types of brush. While it "can" work for some more rigorous cutting, there are much better and easier to use tools for those types of jobs.

Tolles Teil. Beidseitig verwendbar. Halber Tennisplatz in 15 min.

Sonst knallt man gern gegen Steine, Zaeune oder Steine, was hawufiges Nachschaerfen verursacht.Ein bisschen Uebung macht den Meister !

I've tried and I've tried to find a good use for this tool, but I've come up short. The best way to describe this tool is by taking a 36" steel ruler or 3ft of flat rectangular 2mm bar stock, sharpening about 5" at the end with a grinder and then bending the portion you sharpened at an angle in a bench vise. You could temper it with a torch I guess, but it would still hold an edge like a cheap lawnmower blade. The first thing you would notice is that there is a lot of play and springiness in the implement which causes a lot of dangerous unpredictable bounce back. Depending on your height, if you were trying to swing it at ground level you would have to hunch over. It gets stuck lopping small branches. The angle is too obtuse to wack down weeds without tweaking out your shoulder and elbow. It will not hack down old sunflower stalks, will not cut pampas grass, will not clear bamboo shoots... It does excel at cutting back grapevines, if you are conscientious of the rebound. It would be much more useful if it was less flexible and the angle closer to a 90.

This worked much better than I thought it would for cutting down tall grass and weeds. It almost looks like I mowed the grass.Biggest Pro- It's fantastic for chopping deep into a clump of crab grass. You just grip it with two hands and start chopping (sort of digging in with the "V" section of the blade.)Biggest Con- It feels a little on the short side. I had to lean down for most of the work. I could imagine that this would be a little awkward to use if the handle was longer- I was gripping up on it several times for better control. Also, the price of around $10 is fantastic.

A worthwhile tool for loping off small brush and thin stuff close to the ground. The blade is only ground on the top surface, so this makes sharpening on a larger stone difficult due to the inside bend - a Dremel or similar will get that though. The edge is somewhat crude, but functional. It does work well, but not for anything much larger than 1/4" if it's woody, as there's not enough weight behind the blade to keep if from wanting to torque or twist back, the blade being thin an springy rather than thick. Obviously you have to be careful not to hit the ground or small rocks or you'll be sharpening more than cutting.

Disclaimer. I paid for this without any compensation from the seller. This is a nice tool, great for trimming grass, weeds, etc when you don't want to bring out the larger tools. I found the edge to be sharp enough on arrival to clear a 20' x 30' area with some of the larger "saplings" almost 1/2" in diameter. It is VERY light. I then sharpened it on my Work Sharp (KO model) like i would a serrated blade. Now it slices paper. My only beef is that it's a few inches too short for my liking. I'm not a tall guy (5'10") and even with my long arms i had to bend more than my old back prefers. All in all for the money a great addition to our garden equipment. Thanks
