Recently bought 3 different brands of machetes from Ace Hardware and this one here. I have to say this is the best feeling in the hand, the best balance of weight. The blade is sharp and keeps its edge and delivers exactly where you strike. The weight is light but carries through the hit. Felled 3 maple saplings this afternoon with ease, this deserves a review.

I found this while searching for a Woodsman’s Pal, it is very similar in design and is a whole lot cheaper. I opted for this due to the price difference. It seems to be made okay and the sheath is adequate. The problem, on the one I received anyway, was that it wasn’t sharp at all. The main part of the blade had a slight edge but not enough to cut anything. The hook part of the blade had not been sharpened at all, the shape of the hook made it a little difficult to sharpen. I spent the better part of two hours trying to put an adequate edge on the hook edge. I eventually did get it sharpened but it was not a quick process. If you want a sharp out of the box tool this one is not going to be the one.

Bought this to replace my Woodman's Pal which got lost or left behind years ago. It was wonderful to have back during my hunting days but replacing it now costs $175-$225. This one has the same features and size, missing only the guard that goes around the fingers, and for only about 20 bucks. The hook blade is the best part. When you are removing vines or tall weeds, you just grasp the vine and put the hook at the base and pull towards you. It either slices it cleanly off at the base or pulls it out roots and all. Very handy tool.As for size, the overall length including handle is 17". The blade length from the hilt guard to the tip is 11.25".

Great piece of metal, very useful for clearing light brush to small trees if you’re up to it.However, replace the sheath. It broke and cut me in the middle of my index finger and thumb just by picking it up lightly. The sheath had broken by being carried in a backpack I suppose. Either way, always pick it up by it’s handle!

This little guy works great not for just lite brush it cuts the big stuff with ease. I keep this on my side surveying and a machete on the other side for the thinner stuff.

Have been looking for a tool like this for a long time. Great tool to weed. Pricey but VERY GOOD tool. My neighbours borough it from me all the time.

Great machete. Blade was sharp right out of the package. The grip is rubberized and nice and textured for better grip.Started clearing brush from the yard right away. Was able to get through up to 1” thick branches with little effort. The sheath is a nice touch. Great way to keep the machete clean.

Using for yard care primarily. It is an impressive blade and looks like it will last. Not sure that it is as sharp as I’d like it right out of the package and will have to see if I can’t make it sharper. It was not sharp enough to cut through a 1 inch green branch without work.

The grip is comfortable, the sheath is decent nylon, the blade is thin and sharp with good balance and good weight at the top. The size seems perfect, not too small, not too large. I tested it on some 1.5" saplings in my yard that were surrounding a mature tree. It made short work of chopping through with just a few strokes on each. The hook part is functional for pull cutting vines. I like it and recommend it as quite good for the money. I am glad I bought it.Mind you I don't have any real experience with these things, being just an average joe. But I can see how useful this will be in the woods, since it is light and thin yet stout enough to clear brush and whatnot. The shape and design has common elements with the vaunted Woodsman's Pal, and I'd prefer to have bought that for any number of reasons - Made in USA vs China, obviously higher quality, original design, etc, but I can't justify the price differential. At least until I've used this Hooeyman product a lot, and can feel certain if it will work for me in the long term. So far it's a 5 star - taking into the account what you get for the money.
