We want to encourage this sport, as Cold Steel pioneered it. The only thing hindering its wide popularity is the unavailability of an affordable spear. Presenting the American Hunting Spear! Made in three pieces, it consists of a long steel socket, shaft, and head that are welded together into a conjoined piece. It’s sturdy enough for throwing and thrusting and will take down any game in North America. To keep the cost low, and for ease of transport, the American Hunting Spear does not include a handle. It is designed to accept most standard 48 inch Ash shovel handles available at most hardware outlets or online retailers. It comes complete with a Secure-Ex sheath.

Nice spearhead, but it’s full of scratches and the paint finish is really crappy, the whole thing will have to be sanded and repainted, if you want it as an exposition piece !

I purchased these for a wall display complete with shield and sword (from India). I used to have muskets doing the same thing and I wanted something in its place. These spears do that and more. They are actually very strong and meant to be used. So it's a bit of overkill for me but no matter. One thing I found was that they attach extremely well to the recommended shovel handle. They fit so well that they do not appear to need any fixing with screws. The friction fit works well enough. Anyway, Cold Steel have a great product lineup and good quality. I have used Cold Steel products in the past for field use and they have never let me down. One does not find spears in the marketplace readily and so it was a pleasant surprise to see them available at a good price.

Hope these guys stay in the black. This things mad tough (need a 100 plus throws under your belt to avoid poor flight path if throwing at a tree). Best part of this model though is it doesn’t break when ricocheted off concrete from a rural miss. Super bonus: ignore reviews about the shaft bending, this will happen if it lands improperly. You want this, and you can easily, by hand or stepping on it, easily get it back to almost straight with no hassle. Return policy has room for improve t (sorry guys- I’m loyal to consumers first). Good luck everyone. Love this company and product though 100%

I was very disappointed when the other half of this order arrived. The cold steel gladius is now garbage. The blade was bent and unsharpened and their quality control is nowhere near what it was before the buyout. However with that said the spear is still very acceptable. I am quite happy with this part of my purchase.

Seems well made and it is reasonably sharp. It is very much like the Roman Spear bred to a Shetland Whaling Harpoon! Two Roman Spears were provided to each Legionnaire and was designed to penetrate their enemies shields and couldn't be easily removed, bending at the shaft and making the shields useless and Roman enemies vulnerable. This spear would be a thrusting style spear and would not take a lot of throwing at targets etc. Be careful removing the sheath until it loosens or you can really cut your hand. I gently tapped it off the first time with a hammer and now use the Samurai thumb push at the back!
